I volunteered downtown tonight, and when we left, it was nuts. Teenagers running in the streets, cutting off cars. One kid got hit and bounced off a car and continued to run around. Shooting fireworks at people. The cops were going every which way and the fireworks were all around. It sounded like a war zone. Our supervisor asked us to walk to the metro together. We were nervous. I have lived here 20 years and rarely seen people act like this. I am also disappointed that the news didn't really report it on its own. I see the shooting story that happened right outside our building. |
What intersection was this happening at? |
Supervisor? |
Downtown? |
I'm sorry OP. I'm starting to go to DC less and less. It's becoming too much. |
I went to the fireworks last night and drove home across town and I didn’t see anything but a ton of smoke and fireworks and lots of people. No problems. |
This happens every year. |
Yeah, Fairfax has gotten rough. |
How do I get a supervisor when I visit DC? |
My young adult son got home last night saying it was a lot - people lighting off fireworks in the street so driving was hard and dangerous. |
People shot fireworks from cars. |
Yeah, that struck me too. If you asked anyone where they were going and they said "downtown DC", you'd just give them a blank stare because that is a meaningless statement. |
Suburbanites think of the whole darn place as “downtown.” My DH works in Tysons. If he has to go to an event or dinner or client meeting or whatever in DC, he says “I have a dinner downtown tonight.” It gets the point across. |
Don’t you have a supervisor all the time? I do. |
This was Navy Yard around Half Street. |
