Maury Elementary feedback?

Different parent, inbounds for Maury and I agree. Really unfriendly group of people. I’m glad we went elsewhere.

I live in the general neighborhood (but IB for/with kids at L-T) and I cannot imagine turning down Maury as an IB family for another public option... Maybe if I was really set on immersion? Insane to turn down a quality local school because you anecdotally think some parents (your neighbors??) are unfriendly.

In general, I find my Hill neighbors really nice and friendly, especially those with kids in any of the local DCPSes. We have loads of friends at Maury via local kids' activities. The friendly vibe is part of why so many people live and stay on the Hill even when it complicates school options later on. Sorry you've had such a different experience, but I think it's pretty abnormal!

Nah this is very par for the course if you’re not white. Also I don’t need to hear how you’re “considering” eastern and you’re “committed” to Eliot. I’m not sending my kids there either.

Non-white IB families turn down Maury routinely? For where? (I am also not sending my kids to EH or Eastern, but the same considerations absolutely do not apply to Maury which has fabulous test scores and a large group of high achieving students.)

I am confused about what people are even talking about here? That if you are not white you turn down Maury or other neighborhood school? Or if you are non-white you don't like the Maury neighborhood? Or maybe something about the AP? Who knows.

I will add that there are always conversations about school leadership, and it definitely is a factor that can and does impact school community. But as a former teacher, and a parent in DCPS there is a certain amount of the parent response to admin/drama that makes people feel lots of things, but does not impact what the teachers are doing in the classroom.

Imagine hearing that in person with the same condescending tone. I stand behind what I said. Unfriendly people who aren’t super interested in having real friendships with people of color.

Totally confused. What about the PP was condescending? You complained your neighbors tried to sell you on EH & Eastern and now you’re complaining when someone is honest that they’re not using them. You seem exhausting.
