I mean, if you are judging an entire school based on a handful encounters with random parents … that says more about you than the school. For starters, a school is run by teachers and admins, not parents …

I live in the general neighborhood (but IB for/with kids at L-T) and I cannot imagine turning down Maury as an IB family for another public option... Maybe if I was really set on immersion? Insane to turn down a quality local school because you anecdotally think some parents (your neighbors??) are unfriendly.

In general, I find my Hill neighbors really nice and friendly, especially those with kids in any of the local DCPSes. We have loads of friends at Maury via local kids' activities. The friendly vibe is part of why so many people live and stay on the Hill even when it complicates school options later on. Sorry you've had such a different experience, but I think it's pretty abnormal!

Can’t answer question one, but the answer to question 2 is no. My understanding is that even kids who are both inbound and have sibling preference don’t necessarily get in to Maury for pre-K3. So you definitely will not get a spot after the school year starts.

In-bounds doesn't matter for pk, you have to enter the lottery. Weird system.

Isn’t the lottery over? How does it work? Or what is the move takes place after the school year starts? Then what happens?

OP’s kid are placed on the waitlist as an inbounds student with a sibling who attends - likely the top of the waitlist. But likelihood at Maury of someone dropping out after the school list seems slim.

I can verify that lots of the community has heard the rumors. Maybe more known in the upper grades?

Nah this is very par for the course if you’re not white. Also I don’t need to hear how you’re “considering” eastern and you’re “committed” to Eliot. I’m not sending my kids there either.
