Why are so many people wearing masks now?

This is anecdotal, but I don't recall this many respiratory viruses circulating this late in the spring in years past. My kids and I are sicker with this virus than we were with the flu in February, but I finally had to leave my house.

Being considerate is staying home. You can order everything delivered.

I stayed home 6 days, crazy. Nobody is catching something from a masked person running in somewhere and staying clear of others. We have to take precautions and live our lives. I don't expect people with post-viral coughs to isolate for 2-3 weeks, do you?

You realize colds and other viruses are surface-based, so if you are sick its not just the mask. I just went to a doctor who was masking and sai he was sick. I am so careful and rarely go out and was so pissed even though I waited months for the appointment I wish he would have canceled as now I'm sick and it will be weeks before I'm better due to health conditions. I expect people to isolate when they are sick. You have no idea the impact a simple cold has on someone like me. And as a bonus, someone made my kid sick at school with something different.

I’m sorry you and your child are sick. I understand your point about how germs can linger on surfaces, but if the doctor was wearing a mask, it seems less likely that he was the source that infected the surfaces, rather than one of his patients or staff. If you are concerned about diseases (which I totally sympathize with - I have similar struggles), then I think the best way to avoid surface contamination is to wash your hands and use sanitizer liberally. I wish you a speedy recovery.

+1. He was taking precautions. Even so, there is no way to know who gave you what in public. People can be most contagious before they know they are sick.

Do you not get the impact on someone with health issues? A cold is no big deal to you. A cold lasts weeks for me and sometimes requires hospitalization. It was inconsiderate. You call the patient and give them the option to reschedule.

Did you ask him to reschedule when you got there?

If I were you and this were my preference, I would request each of my providers to make a note on my file to call and reschedule in the event if illness. Providers with long waits for appointments may assume patients want to come in.

Peak medical arrogance. "Of course she'll want to see ME! I'm exclusive! I'm rare! I'm special! I'll bump her to the back of the queue if she reschedules"

Whitecoats are such pricks.

Giving you the next available appointment isn't bumping you to the back of the queue.

New COVID variant. People are being smart and don’t want to mess up graduation parties and weddings

People should wear masks if it makes them more comfortable, or whatever reason they want. I have no issue.

My question is - why are some people still wearing cloth masks? If you're going to wear a mask, why wear one that is ineffective?

It's the new strain of covid that's already here in CA, VA, NY, and RI. Buckle up. People are dying and hospitalizations are up already overseas.

My allergies are crushing me this year. I feel like I have allergy symptoms plus the flu. The first time I tested for CoViD. But I finally figured out it was allergies. I would feel awful spending time outside and feel perfectly better the next day. I have a dog so I can’t just stay inside.

I think a lot people are either just trying to avoid pollen or think they are sick and are trying to be polite.

But would you keep that in while inside grocery shopping?

I am a new poster, but have noticed the same thing.

I wondered if they had COVID ?

That doctor was unprofessional and greedy.
Sick people don’t need to fear catching an additional illness from their health care provider.

OUT HIM here, and on review sites.

Coupled with pollen.

So those of us with underlying conditions are being careful.

What is your evidence that there is a COVID surge?

I mean anyone’s guess is as good as mine. I just haven’t heard of any of my friends or colleagues or kid’s classmates having COVID. I do know allergies are bad this year. Thanks why I think you are seeing masks in the grocery store.

COVID hysteria 2.0! (or are we on 3.0?)

Flatten the curve! Wash your groceries!
