99.9% of suburbanites aren't hauling haybales nor are towing livestock. 99.9% of people are driving these dumbass vehicles to go to Costco, Home Goods, Target, Starbucks and the local McDonald's. Because a story exists that's probably 2-3 standard deviations from the norm doesn't really add much to the overall point that most of America lives in the city and burbs and are driving all of these stupidly sized cars that are completely unnecessary and are killing too many people. And all to line the pockets of automakers. Somehow 3 billion people from Europe to Asia are capable of having families, sports practices and haul around stuff, yet don't need stupidly sized vehicles to survive.

I guess no tradesmen or sportsmen live in the suburbs anymore.

I guess no trades people live in Europe all the way to Japan. Oh wait, that's right, they do, and almost none of them use these stupidly sized trucks. In fact, they often drive vans.

Back to what is offered in America. Only two small pickups - the Maverick and Santa Cruz, which are both great but don’t safely fit everyone’s work or lifestyle needs.

Europe and Japan have different offerings. Plenty of Americans choose vans but they are not any smaller than the trucks you’re so offended by, are LESS safe and they don’t allow cross-use, like serving as a family vehicle.

Why don’t you just say you hate tradesmen… that theyre beneath you - stop explaining to others how they should manage their lives.

False and stupid.

Smart tradesmen would use a van, like this American made vehicle:

https://www.ford.com/commercial-trucks/e-transit/?gnav=header-trucks-vhp

https://www.chevrolet.com/commercial/express

So many trades people use vehicles like that all over Europe to Asia, because they have far more storage and hauling space than these stupidly sized trucks. You're just regurgitating all of the auto industry propaganda. Besides, the vast, vaaaaast majority of these these stupid trucks and SUVs are bought and driven by suburban Chad morons who think they need 400 hp to go to Costco. Completely laughable.

Billions of people on the planet, which include ranchers to trades people to urban dwellers, are somehow capable of surviving and doing their work without these dumb vehicles. I blows a hole in your argument that somehow these gargantuan vehicles are "needed".

They are monstrousities they are the product of a bunch of car industry brain washing of the public and a whole bunch of lobbying effort. They are killing way too many Americans, tearing up our roads and infrastructure, and are consuming way too much energy. It's dimwittedness on wheels.

Also, forgot to mention, utility vans ARE better than trucks specifically because of their bumper height, weight, and visibility differences. Utility vans have way, wayyyy better visibility and line of site than dumb trucks and if you're a pedestrian, you're much more likely to survive getting hit by a utility can than a dumb truck because of how much lower the bumper and hoods are on the van.

Yes, because in America, 99.99999999999% of massive trucks are owned by farriers. Yet another worthless talking point trying to justify these dumb trucks because some example 4 standard deviations from the average loser who drives trucks to Starbucks is a great justification for have millions of these on the roads.

That's like saying you know a guy who saved his family from a robber using a bazooka, so let's all have bazookas available to the civilian public at large so that they can protect themselves from bad guys.

The reality to most truck buyers is they are like a Swiss Army knife. Can a little car make it to Snowshoe in a snowstorm as safe as a truck? No. Can you take a little car on the beach in Delaware? OBX? Long Island? No. Can you pick up a daughter from Collage and bring all her stuff home with a little car? No. Can you tow a boat for family days on a lake or river with a little car? No. Can you tow ATVs or side by sides for a fun day in the mountains in a little car? No. Can you tow a camper with a tiny car? No. Can a Fireman make it to work or home in a snowstorm in a tiny car? No. How about Police? Doctors? Tell us how a tiny car is so useful??

Vans do not have the same tow ratings. To tow a dump trailer you need a real truck. As in what people use to take stuff to a job site, Or to take stuff to the dump. Also vans do not come with real 4wd.

The point is. Your little car is not good for much of anything. Folks from Europe buy American trucks. Why? Because they are the best tool for the job in America.

As a CDL trucker, I'll just say that I'll never buy another car unless it's for a really good, ridiculous price and even then I wouldn't enjoy driving it. Right now I have an Explorer, and that's the smallest vehicle that I can ever see me enjoying.

If I can get the vehicle that I want, my next one will be a Ford F150. I just can't decide if I want one of the Ecoboost engines or the 5.0 V8.

In general, cars suck!

My small car was totaled in a 13 mph accident with a large SUV and my mid sized car totaled in an accident slightly higher speed in last three years.

The large SUVs and pickups bumpers are so high the hit you at tail taillight or headlight level. You bumper goes right under car and does huge damage. It is scary. In both crashes big truck drove away and my cars were totaled with all airbags deployed.

I am driving an Acadia now and at least my bumper is at a height equal to their bumper.

Way back in 1998 I got tboned by a large SUV going 50 in my Ford Taurus. It dragged my 20 feet sideways and totaled car. It’s weight alone my car was dragged

Cars are not safe in road let alone pedestrians.

Alot of that can be done with a little car if you install a trailer hitch, My little 4 cylinder will easily tow up to 1000lbs.

Look at who we elected, why shouldn’t we expect to see these silly monstrous trucks on the roads. It all fits the narrative. Logical next step is something like a armored personnel carrier or maybe we should just live and drive RVs since housing is unaffordable 🤷‍♂️

Most of the guys I know drive with empty beds 85% of the time, but the 15% they do use it are frequent enough to warrant or demand consideration. There is often a reason people spend the money on these vehicles, though I'm certain there are outliers.

The size of the bed between the smallest full size and the largest isn’t that significant

And these comically large trucks are empty, 99.9% of the time.

SDE is real.

I am driving my wifes 13 year old SUV to work as gave my smaller safer car to youngest kid and wife got a newer smaller SUV. In 2012 when bought larger SUV had three young kids and it was car pooled the heck out of and went on every family vacation and eventually on two oldest all the college drop offs and pick ups and helped them move out to first apt in it.

My youngest graduates HS this year will use it to drag her stuff to college. But it is a 8 passenger SUV and I joke at work if 7 people break down side of road I can pick them up.

It only has 67K miles as I take the smaller vehicles if just me normally. But did not want kid driving this thing to HS. And by the way last week I picked up furniture off facebook market place and delivered furniture to daughter in DC>

Completely laughable. Nearly all trades people in Europe use compact vans, because a) the roads are far narrower, b) they're 100x easier to park, and c) then get far better gas mileage.
