And it continues to get worse. Once the last of the boomers holding the world together retire it is going to be a rough ride.

Participation trophies, equity vs opportunity, TO, UBI, the ideas keep getting dummer all the time.

The Boomers checked out a while ago. They just retire in place saying they will retire next year.

And are definitely not remotely interested in having relationships with their grandchildren. When they pass away all you will notice is an influx of real estate listing.

I envision a lot of reverse mortgages coming due. Good luck with millennials getting that free house.

Which starts from a lack of discipline at home.

That’s the parent’s job, not the school.

If you can’t act properly in any restaurant, fast food or not, stay away. I want to enjoy my meal in peace.

This is on the parents, not the school.

Schools can't fix all the problems in society.

Poor parenting cannot be repaired by teachers and administrators. Parents need to step up and parent.

1. Stop trying to be your kids' friend. You aren't their friend, nor should you be.

2. Be present. Know who your kids are hanging out with. Know what they are doing.

3. Be involved. Even if you are working two jobs, you can still be involved. Talk to your kids about their hobbies. Ask them about school. Ask them to teach you what they are learning at school.

4. Set limits. Have boundaries.

5. Have consequences for misbehavior. Start young. Follow through.

6. Expect children to act like civilized humans.

Girlfriend, none of the parents who need to read your advice are on DCUM.

Teens are out of control and it can happen anywhere. I want our local Walgreens in Vienna to do this. I’ve been in there multiple times when security has been called because of 20+ teens harassing the employees and/or causing damage. They might be stealing too. I can’t tell if they are from the middle school or 6th graders but definitely look younger than 10th grade. I’ve also been in the Vienna Chipotle when police have been called from mobs of out of control teens. Luckily I have not heard of violence in our area yet.

7:53 and before you say it, I’m a parent with teens and they are also appalled at the behavior of these kids and how they treat the places and our local employees. It’s terrible.

Girl, I know you want to be relevant but what happens in Vienna - just some loud kids congregating in the same location - is not remotely on par with what’s happening over in Alexandria.

I wasn’t talking about inheritances. I was talking about the house just going up for sale at market price. I’m shocked how many in my family neighborhood of 4-5br homes clearly plan to just wait to die right here.

Yes, it does. Sticking your head in the sand does nothing. You need to reach out and get the underprivileged youth to have better values. Otherwise they end up in jail or dead from fentanyl overdoses. Young women who do not use birth control is where it starts. Babies having babies. Let's get real. Otherwise it's just TikTok challenges and other BS.

I would be embarrassed if my kids went to this school. And so should you.

How are the other parents supposed to parent kids whose families clearly aren’t doing their jobs? All they can do is support their own kids and be supportive to their kids friends. It gets old when people keep acting like other people are responsible. There are lots of great kids who go to that school with involved parents. The admin is doing their best but they’re only allowed to do so much given the current parameters and rules in place in schools these days.

People need to parent and hold their own kids accountable. The staff and other patrons of that McDonald’s should be able to feel safe and if keeping kids out allows that then that should be the wake up call to the parents of the kids who caused it.

It takes a village! The child that is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel the warmth.

Hidden pitch for Communism.

Sure thing. They're hiding under your bed, you know!

Nah, just shared civic responsibility.

I was a teen in the good burbs, 30 yrs ago, so this was when this area was very white, our local McDonalds was a zoo on a Saturday/Friday night and none of us actually ever bought anything. I’m not sure why we got away with it, except maybe our friends were the ones running the registers. Yes people ate but no one actually paid for anything.

The Vienna McD’s is downright scary after evening games let out. The cops are called quickly though, they show up en masse and quickly and gently disperse the crowd.

The PPs who love to tout “the usual suspects” are a bunch of racist azzhats bottom line.

Unsupervised teens cause trouble, in urban, suburban and rural areas, spend some time in the boonies and witness the youth cruising the Hardee’s in their gun racked, jacked up pickups, now that’s scary! Nothing new at all, but true to life the less wealthy teens are the only ones who face actual consequences.

I don't understand your post. You are suggesting the teens in the boonies with guns and jacked up trucks are wealthy?

Some are and some aren’t. Not ALL rural whites are poor. What’s your point?

And how do you fix it? You can't (trust me, I know, I came from a $h!tty home).
