This is over the top. No one is questioning the Jewish faith. People are appalled at the way Israel is decimating the Palestinians. Many Jewish people are shocked and appalled as well |
DP and I don't think it's over the top at all. I'm also a Catholic. Are people equally appalled at what the Palestinians did to the Israelis? I know I was pretty appalled. I mean, how can you look at what is going on at places like Columbia and argue that it's not a difficult moment for Jewish students? They have my support, and I have taught my Catholic children to support them as well. |
| I'm the immediate PP and I forgot to mention I have children at both Visi and Gonzaga. They would never (and have never) had an issue with a student of another faith. Why would they? |
A key question is how your family will feel about the constant Catholic religious content, which will vary a little from school to school. As a Protestant family, we would be OK with it. I do not have any idea how it would feel if we were Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, or Muslim though. We have been told that Jesuit operated schools often are more tolerant, but not sure if that is true. |
Some of us are more appalled by the prospect of 14,000 Palestinian children dying of starvation and Israel not letting humanitarian aid to save them than the college students exercising the first amendment right to advocate stopping the war. But Israel is a government, many Jews are also against the atrocities happening in Palestine, and people don’t conflate the actions of government with that of people who practice the Jewish faith. |
| When there are multiple synagogues in the area with "we stand with Israel" signs outside and similar slogans on their websites, it's hard not to conflate the religion with the atrocities. I realize the synagogues don't speak for all Jews, but you can't pretend that Jewish religious institutions aren't complicit in the genocide. |
| I haven't read all these responses but I moved my obviously Jewish son to JDS in Rockville and out of MCPS because I thought a smaller environment was better for him. He had a great experience and recently graduated. After having him attend a religious school that was our family religion, I cannot imagine sending him to a school with someone else's religion.... |

I can’t answer the question directly but have had quite a few friends kids go to St John’s and none have been pleased w the academics. Several have pulled kids out mid stream wondering why anyone would pay for an education on par with the neighborhood public.
I also agree w a prior poster. Much of what has happened at Columbia U was not merely free speech. It was trespassing, vandalism and sloganeering like “globalize the intifada” or “intifada revolution” which literally means violence against the Jews. Imagine having a Jewish student there and having to hear that hate speech all day and night (encampments on main quad/ in buildings with constant drum circles). Israel had to respond to the barbarism of 10/07, just as we responded forcefully to 09/11. Do I wish it were different in both cases - for sure. Should college kids be protesting? Yes, BUT not with sloganeering that is filled with the hateful rhetoric (and trespassing and vandalizing) that these kids “supposedly” are protesting. The behavior and sloganeering is terrorizing to the Jewish kids and it is also just really stupid. If the goal is to stop the war, then it is also not working. But if the goal is to inject more hate into an already broken world, well, I would say those kids are winning. That war has to end. |
Thank you. |
Wow. |
| People, take it to Politics. |
So much here. Hundreds of thousands of Israelis protest for the return of hostages and end of the war weekly. Israel is less than 10 million people so hundreds of thousands is substantial. Second, “ the stand with Israel” banners are always there … before 10/07 and after. And yes, I would say most synagogues do stand with Israel. That does not mean that they stand for the war or with Bibi. I stand with America. But I don’t stand with Dump or its policies. My guess is you feel similarly. There is a difference. |
OP, read this and send your kid to a Jewish school or a truly inclusive non-denominational school where they won’t have to deal with people like PP |
Wrong Stephen Miller will come for the Jews Not like Neo Nazis are not running the WH If you don’t see that you have missed the plot. Jews are no longer safe in The US . As for Israel vs Palestine Hamas started this Israel will finish it. Given over 80 percent of Palestinians support Hamas again Israel will finish it. Trump wants to build hotels in GAZA he doesn’t support Israel he supports his scam /con as always |
Are you even paying attention? Jews are being targeted on the assumption that they are complicit with a genocide that doesn't even exist. The pro-Hamas crowd has done a great job promoting a bunch of lies. |
