Teen son ate an entire large container of Whole Foods smoked mozzarella pasta salad

For some reason, those containers call out to people (me included) more than old Tupperware from the draw. So, the solution is this:

Make a giant batch of pasta salad, however you want to. (Do include cheese, though, so there is protein - could also include leftover chicken from a previous meal, etc..) Fill 3-4 of recycled WF containers with it. Put them in the fridge. Viola. Your teens will eat it, and the cost is probably $10 or less.

I sort of addressed this already. He wouldn't binge eat that, he's binge eating more premium snack items. If I made cheap bulk quesadillas or enchiladas and put them in the fridge or freezer, he'd barely touch them and want to order DoorDash. But if we bought the same items from WF's deli, they'd quickly disappear from the fridge. So is he really starving from growing or is it just self-centered and spoiled gluttony?

This is absurd. He's allowed to like what he likes. If you don't want him to eat WF when he's famished, don't have it in the house.

Now you have raised a third question, different from the first two. This one is: is my kid spoiled?

Just say no to DoorDash and tell him to make a quesadilla. That isn’t something to be made ahead, it literally takes 5 minutes and your 13 yo is more than old enough. My 11 yo makes these.

We buy two containers of this specific pasta salad each WF shopping trip. It's lasts about 4-6 days because the rest of us just take a little bit as a side item for lunch or maybe a snack. It seems at the very least uncivilized to hoover an entire container. Even if he's hungry, it's overboard, right?

You seem like you're desperate for this to be a problem, but it's a normal amount for a teenage boy to eat.

Exactly. You can tell him to eat a more varied diet, and point him to other foods, and remind him it's not nice to finish off something in the dead of night without asking others whether they want some... but your son NEEDS food right now. He's in a growth spurt. He won't eat like that every day, but he might be ravenous for two weeks, and sleep like the dead, before the end of that particular growth spurt. And then he'll revert to a more normal diet. And then in 6 months, he might get another growth spurt. Adjust accordingly. Do not blame.

That's the issue IMO.

Keep his favorite sandwich things on hand. Make extra supper, he can have more later. He may very well want another plate a couple of hours after supper. One of mine ate PB & J like it was nothing.

You shop at WF, you have money. Why not buy enough to satisfy the family. Posts like this show how messed up some people are around food.

I can't tell if you all are just being mean just for sport. You think we should just add 7x 1lb $11.99 each large containers of WF smoked mozz pasta salad to the shopping list so a 13 year old boy can binge eat one before bed every night? This is extremely indulgent and rude to the rest of the family.

DP but I can’t figure out the point of your original post or any of your follow-ups.

You asked a question and people answered. Now you’re being weirdly aggressive. Would it make you happy if people told you your son is a thoughtless little pig a la Alec Baldwin?

I am the poster that some are quoting that said I just buy more food and wrap up or label what I don’t want them to eat.

More info- I have two teens. They are 14 and 17. My 17 yo if over 6 feet tall and 200 lbs. yes, he is a football player and eats like it.

No, I am not suggesting you buy 7 containers of prepared pasta salad at WF. I don’t buy that food. I go for bulk and can’t shop there. I stopped when they were little.

I shop at Walmart, Costco and Sam’s Club now in bulk. Chicken in chicken and the generic chicken, fruit, pizza, milk, eggs etc at Walmart and these places fill them up the same as WH. No I’m not buying organic and I’m certainly not buying prepared deli food in 1 lb containers. I’d go broke.

I would not buy so little of a family favorite that each member could only take just a “little bit as a side item” for snack or lunch.

I find complaining about WF prices while shopping there for indulgent items to be silly.

Pasta salad is not a meal. Eating over a pound of cold pasta salad is not normal. A small, snack-sized portion to nosh on is the appropriate amount. Delis have those tiny quarter pound containers, that's an appropriate amount to snack on. A 1lb container is four times that size.

You’re not normal. Many people have pasta salad for lunch or dinner. Some even have a big greens salad as an entire meal. Stop coming with these stupid rules based on what containers deli stores have. A teen boy hitting a growth spurt and being hungry is not going to “nosh on” a spoonful of pasta. Being part of your family must be unbearable.

We are failing her demands, her son is failing her demands. But she is great! Never to be told no or to change.

I think you should stop being lazy and entitled and learn to make your own pasta salad. It’s like the easiest thing in the world. You can make 7 pounds for $24.

One pound of cooked pasta is not that much. This is a 1 lb deli container:

No, that's a half pound. A full pound container is the tall container.

Sounds like your bulk enchiladas and quesadillas suck. If his favorite food is pasta salad, buy more, even if it’s 7 1lb containers only for your son. If you can’t afford it, buy in bulk and make him the damn pasta salad from scratch, it’s going to cost the same as your crappy enchiladas.

Lady you are hella obnoxious

Growing boys eat a ton of food. If you don’t want him to eat it, specify it. Otherwise you are picking THE dumbest battle in the world to argue over

NP. I have two boys but no brothers. I was not prepared for the amounts of food my teenage son can consume. It's like nothing I ever saw growing up. If OP only has sisters there's an adjustment that needs to happen.
