Was this “disgusting”?

Sorry that we want our public places to be nice clean places for everyone, not your personal dumping ground. You must be my neighbor who leaves their crap all over the street in front of their house 5 to 6 days before the trash comes. So trashy.

Not a big deal at all. The lady was being rude- these hall monitor types drive me crazy.

That being said, I don’t see what the big deal would’ve been to just leave it in your own trash either, or how this is different than any other week.

So what will she do with the food today that she throws out, obviously it’ll go in her trashcan. I call BS that said it was 1/3 of a bag (likely more) or why couldn’t she just at least double bag it and keep it in her own trashcan?

Yes what OP did was a little selfish, but it was a one off. It would be like if you jaywalked on a busy street one time to make an appointment, or double parked one time to run in for takeout because you were in an unusual hurry. Those are annoying, selfish behaviors. But if someone did them ONE TIME and felt bad enough about it to post about it here, I'd be like "don't stress about it, next time come up with another solution."

I am glad we get trash pick up twice a week. Every once in a while it's only once a week because of holiday scheduling and it's pretty gross.

Public trash cans are an extremely limited resource.

You shouldn't double park for takeout. You aren't that important.

What if you did it one time because you were on the way home from the hospital and you didn't want to leave your spouse who had just had surgery in the car for more than a couple minutes.

She threw trash- in the trash can where it belongs. People even throw dog poop in there ffs. Hardly a “personal dumping ground” or equivalent to leaving it all over the street.

Is this regional or something? At our local parks, there are giant trash cans about every 100-200 feet. Ramadas full of parties etc all weekend long, sports fields with snack bars and lots going on. Tons of people grilling. A small bag of trash like that would not even be noticed, and I’m pretty sure the cans are emptied daily. I’ve never seen one overflowing.

Oh, that's much better. Leaving a running vehicle with a semi-comatose individual along the curb in DC.

Get delivery. Is it really that hard?

We don’t have dumps in our part of Northern Virginia. Where do you live?

Yes, there are. You just might have to drive a bit to get there.

Fairfax County. They get emptied once a week. They keep removing the trash cans at my local park.

Ugh, why do people care what other people think? Is this strange woman someone whose opinion normally matters to you? Do you respect her in general? NO, because she's a stranger!

You sound a bit crazy to worry about a small amount of trash sitting in your can for a week.

And I do agree that public trach cans are not for your household trash.

Americans are so gullible and foolish in this respect (strangers). They are so easily guilted into handing over cash to any stranger pretending to have a sob story or something of the sort.

They do not even realize most of these “beggars” are actually scam artists and huxters.

It is public dumping, and illegal in most jurisdictions.

Just because you put it in a bin, doesn't make it legal or appropriate.

wow incredible. That's not your personal trash so yeah it was discusting what you did. The entitlement here. What if everyone on the block or in the entire neighborhood did what you did?

Where I grew up in rural Ohio, people too poor to pay for trash pick up used to burn their trash in a barrel in their yard.

My quirky in-laws have an aversion to food waste in the trash - and they have a bucket in their basement freezer. They literally freeze their trash until trash day.

I think what you did was weird, but not disgusting. It’s a public park. If your family had picked up takeout and had a picnic on Easter and put the trash in the same trash can, the result would have been the same. Your choice was better than putting it in a private dumpster at a local business.

I'm the American who wrote the bolded, so it can't be just all Americans. I view it as a type of immaturity.
