Was this “disgusting”?

If you have a week between pickups it's different than a couple days. I'm the guy who drives the last bag of trash before vacation to the dump, because I ended up cleaning maggots out of a trash can once when it was left for a week. If we had twice a week, I'd be less worried.

I think it's fine as a one off -- you are trying to ensure very smelly trash actually gets collected today instead of in several days. If you made a habit of it, I would think it was rude, though not disgusting. It's trash, it's a trash can.

We have people in our neighborhood you will regularly just place small bags of trash that include old food and diapers in the street or on the curb. THAT is disgusting.

But what if everyone did it just that once this week?

It is fine

For the people who are saying it’s fine, don’t complain that the park bins are overflowing or that there are rats on the playground.

What if everyone bought their groceries at one specific Safeway on Saturdays at 10am? Wouldn't work.

What if everyone decided to play board games every week around the Columbus Memorial Fountain? Chaos.

Just because everyone can't do it doesn't make it wrong, PP. You need additional assumptions to make that case. It's not a slam dunk.

Next time, just triple bag it OP. I've had trash for two weeks due to vacation, NBD! Summer weather may need some extra steps like adding baking soda on top and clean the trash can afterwards!

Public dumping is illegal and OP could be fined. Your reasoning is illogical. It’s not illegal to go to the grocery store on a Saturday morning.

Pretty soon you won't have trashcans at the park. That's the usual solution.

I don’t understand why it couldn’t sit in the trash can at your house until the next pickup, or how this was different than any other week?

That said, I don’t see this as a big deal. It doesn’t sound like a lot of stuff; and was a one time thing…that lady was being a busybody.

We get trash twice a week. Once a week? I cannot even imagine the stench in the summer! Food trash, period trash, diapers when they were little--yikes. (3 teenagers who make a lot of trash.)

Is it public dumping, though? I consider public dumping to be things like tires and batteries and other things not easily disposed of.

We don’t have dumps in our part of Northern Virginia. Where do you live?

Yes, yes you do. Where do you think your trash goes?

We are not allowed to utilize the dump that the county utilizes for trash pickup.
