Would you take the week off to deep clean your house?

Another teacher here. This is what I do every spring break. I can’t afford to travel, so I give myself the gift of a clean house!

Another teacher here. I also can’t afford to go anywhere but I just paid a cleaning service to clean yesterday. I also do it once around Thanksgiving. Worth every penny.

I will be helping my mom get rid of a ridiculous amount of clothing and shoes. This is long overdue. She just needs someone to hold up the clothes and she decides yes or no. Then I’ll take it all to Goodwill. I have a tiny closet so I have to do this for myself at least once a year.

Was it a one-time cleaning service (i.e., a new company and not a weekly cleaning that you know and use?). I contacted one for my parents house and it was $350 for a one-time clean and they didn't do that good of a job.

Recs for deep cleaning companies?

I personally would never, but if you have the time to burn and the energy and enthusiasm, go for it!

No. My cleaning ladies do this monthly.

Hiring a monthly cleaning service was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It forces me to de-clutter once a month before they come. Thank goodness for the anxiety of not wanting strangers to know how lazy I can get with things like laundry and junk mail. I de-clutter, they scrub the place, then I do minimal upkeep in between. Works for everyone.

This. Why on EARTH should a working woman use her PTO to clean by herself? If it's that big a job, you should both take a day or two off. If he won't because he's too important and well-paid, then he can pay for a service. There are tons of companies that will help you declutter and get closets in shape.

Haha another teacher here! I do this every spring break or a week during the summer. It's lovely. Highly recommend!

This. I just do it once a month, you pre clean a certain amount and it helps you keep up. If you shop around it's really not that bad.

Part of me thinks this is the best idea ever, the other part thinks it’s a waste of personal time (I have it to burn and also have enough for family stuff.) What do you think?

Absolutely!

This is time for you to have your house all to yourself. The fact that even part of you thinks it is the best idea, ever, means you believe you would find it fulfilling.

I say go for it, if you have the time off.

For me the only concern would be that, with so much time to myself, I’d declutter everything and the whole house would be empty by Friday.

+1
My cleaning lady lends a hand for these kinds of projects on an hourly rate. So worth it.

I need to do this. What cleaning supplies did you use? I have dark lowers with a lot of carving so it's tricky to tell how to clean them.

I cleaned out my fridge and freezer. Spotless. anything that could be pulled was cleaned in the sink with dish soap and dried. For the inside cleaning I used meyers spray and paper towels.

Yes, but I wouldn't spend all of the days off cleaning, especially because deep cleaning often requires some errands anyway. So after I've dropped off an armload of clothes at the dry cleaner, I'm getting myself takeout for lunch. My trip to the Container Store is going to come before a trip to the salon, and then I'm going home to sit around and fill those bins while watching a movie.

I’ve thought about it but I would just spend the day doom scrolling.
