a) it's telehealth, not telahealth
b) how can you test for strep or flu with a telehealth visit?

DP but you can buy home strep kits on Amazon very cheap. You can also buy Covid/Flu combo tests for cheaper than a co-pay. Some telehealth providers will let you test while on camera during the visit and call in a prescription for antibiotics or Tamiflu.

And do they sell tests on Amazon for meningitis or instructions to tell you how to self diagnose sepsis?

If you have meningitis or sepsis your family medicine doctor isn’t going to be able to help you either. Do you think they do lumbar punctures in the exam room?

Presumably a PCP is better trained to pick up when there is a serious problem and get the patient to the ER for a lumbar puncture - more so than some amateur relying on tests from the interwebs to rule out a couple of things

My pcp ignores everything and says I’m fine. The current thinking means I lost years of help thanks to her and the other pcps I’ve seen.

Mine says to test at home or go to urgent care. I’m considering firing her but don’t want to go to concierge or find myself in the same position again.

Sounds like she does not think you need to see a doctor.

If she suspects COVID , I don’t blame her for wanting you to test at home first.

Why should she risk losing a week of pay because you won’t take a ten minute self-test?

It’s her job to see people sick. That’s what doctors do. Mask and glove up.

Why would you need to get everyone else ill?

How would you get "everyone else" ill? Your post makes no sense.

I just went to the doctor and wore a mask. I did not get "everyone else" ill. lol

Exactly. And it's downright unethical just to shun you to urgent care if she doesn't want to get sick only to get the urgent care doctor sick.

Have you tried to get into an urgent care? It’s challenging.

There are about 6 urgent cares within 5 minutes of my house. It's not challenging at all. It can be slow, but not horrible. We go for sprained ankles/wrists (X-rays) and strep tests.

It is so extraordinarily slow. We book a slot online before we present and even if you're first on the list it's unreasonably slow. And expensive. It really should not be the first resort of "primary" care.

WHY the... are you not using telehealth? You just prefer to share your germs with the chronically ill who now are avoiding offices because of people like you?

First of all, you're responding to a person who said she uses telehealth.

Secondly, when a person is sick, he/she should be able to see their physician. That's the whole point of having one. I'm sorry you think your illness is more deserving of attention and care. You sound extremely self centered and selfish.

THIS. So many babies need to be coddled in the office.

What are you talking about? In NOVA they're all empty. Alexandria, Falls Church ALL of them are empty. No wait.

Do this when sniffling and coughing.

So you would rather sniffle and cough in the doctors face, on the receptionist AND on the others in the waiting room?

MAKE THAT MAKE SENSE!

No it's not. Not even close to comparable.

Imagine getting a job as a primary care physician, nurse or receptionist and expecting to never encouter sick people. True lunacy.

I have a relationship with my primary care doctor (I'm not the OP). She knows my history, has a list of all of my medications, and previous test results. None of that is available to some rando online.

Also, if you could be contagious that is another reason a doctor may not want sick patients in the office.

It is kind of amazing how doctors offices and urgent care clinics are generally so cavalier about contagious illness. Shouldn't they have quarantine booths for sick patients?
