Elementary parents, pay attention to start times

We currently start at 9:20 and go to 4:05pm. DD loves this schedule. It really helps with swim team late at night and getting home late and showering. It’s a sweet deal.

On the slip side, the businesses that provide aftercare probably won’t be as needed if those same kids are getting home at 5, 5:30.

We go to the school with the latest start and there are definitely more families that use beforecare of some form (this includes both beforecare at a center and morning sitters/nannies that take the kids to the bus stop) than aftercare. The bus gets to our neighborhood at 8:55.

The high schoolers would also like a later start so Option E is a win for them as well.

But under this plan your school would start at 9:50 am and get out at 4:40. That’s a lot for little kids. They can’t concentrate that well in the late afternoon.

Or maybe no change for this ES because a 920 start time would fall into the range of adjusted start times.

That;s what I'm unclear on...would they just keep the 9:20 start schools at 9:20 and push the earlier start ones to later? Or would they push the 9:20 one to the latest start time under the new window?

Arent the majority of MSnear their respective HS? As in like 1 mile (or 2) apart, right? Frost/WTW, Irving/WSP, Poe/Annandale...

Can the MS be lumped with the HS schedule (or maybe adjusted by like 15 min so that the bus routes make 1 swoop through the neighborhoods instead of 2 (HS and MS).

I can't imagine buses would be overly packed given most HS mers drive or dropped off by parents (based on the Kiss & Ride traffic that backs up).

It's already done at LBSS (and I imagine Hayfield and Roinson too) where 7-12 graders are on the same bus.

Not true. Some elementary schools would still start at 9:20 or so. And then some would have the later start. They all are not in the same time bucket. So, for all your belly-aching about this potential late start, we are not even talking about it involving all of the elementary schools. So, get your facts straight.

Option E reads as 9-3:45 or 9:50-4:35pm. Both are part of the ES solution. It’s not all ES gets a 9:50 start.

Ok so because it only affects some elementary schools, we should not care and not speak out against it?

Wake up your middle schooler early for two years and quit your bellyaching. (See how unproductive that kind of argument is?)

Ok ok, so only half of the elementary schools get screwed. In that case, carry on!

Well, that does impact less overall. Excellent point!

Unless you have an only child then you are dealing with MS times for more than just 2 years.

No because plenty of elementary schools currently start well before 9 and will have to get pushed up. But you clearly don’t give a s#%* about anyone but yourself and your kids, much like most of this god forsaken country.

Op's post made it sound like every ES will be affected and negatively at that.
It's mis-leading esp since some ES are already "late" starts.
