Iconic episode where she ripped up a pic of the Pope. Was quite the scandal back then! And everyone still remembers.

It's Prince's song that Sinead covered.
Their inclusion of Miley C, and many others, cements why I have no reason to watch anymore. They often highlight untalented trash.

Haha, Grammy winners are untalented. And you are…who, exactly?

They probably got tired of attacking Lamar's SB halftime performance so had to move on to attacking SNL.

I love when nobodies share their opinions of artists who have won Grammys, a Pulitzer, Tonys, etc.

Please do share, you awardless non-artist. Your opinions mean so much! LOL

And the skits weren’t funny except for Kate McKinnon and Jon Hamm. It didn’t feel like a tribute, more like a bunch of stars putting on a show for themselves. So, typical Hollywood.

+1. The skits were so half-assed and just relied on celebs and laugh tracks. Lorne needs to hang it up. The guy is ancient and out of touch.

I'm assuming Paul Simon is a best friend of Lorne Michaels in real life? Because he is hardly some legendary super relevant singer.

Yes, they have been close friends for decades. So what?

Sigh.

Miley wasn’t asked to sing that song in homage to Prince. He wrote the song, but he never released it as a single and he never received recognition for it. Sinead made it a hit and it’s the song that made her a global star.

Anyway, this is about SNL.

Sinead sang War and ripped the Pope’s pic on SNL, and it was a very big deal. It was on the news and talk shows for weeks. She might have been the first celeb canceled (at least in my memory).

The song was a great way to remind everyone of Sinead and her ballsy bananas protest…but in a sweet way by using a sweet song that is forever linked to her.

I’m sorry they didn’t just have a piano accompany Miley. Too many electric guitars and they played the melody at at a weird cadence.

Regardless, Miley can sing. She has a rockstar voice that is both powerful and interesting.

As a Gen X gal who loves comedy and music, I enjoyed the show last night.

Ana Gasteyer and Molly Shannon were great.

Too bad they didn’t have Dana Carvey. And I wish they would have done more with David Spade (Hollywood minute with that crowd would have been awesome).

Agree that the electric guitar was all wrong in this case. Would love to hear Pink try her hand at this song.

Annie Lennox crushed it at last year's Grammys in tribute to Sinead.

Paul Simon? I disagree, he is legendary. And he’s been on SNL tons of times since the very beginning. It’s not like they just randomly picked him.

+1000000 I stopped watching SNL because of him. Reading later about the crap he pulled particularly with women made me hate him.

I love Meryl Streep but thought she and Woody ruined the alien encounter skit.

I knew it. 99% of the viewers last night could not name one of his songs.

That moment ruined Sinead's career. It was appropriate at the time given what we were learning about child abuse by the Church. It was particularly bad in Ireland. I hated the fact that no one supported Sinead.

No. He did not deserve to open the show. When you think most legendary musicians of the last 50 years nobody thinks of Paul Simon. He wouldn't be in the top 50 musicians of the last 50 years.

That boring ass Simon open signaled the whole thing was going to be boomer snooze fest. Which it was. Way to set the tone with cronyism, Lorne.

Where were Dana Carvey and Mike Myers? Would have loved a Waynes World reunion.

Janis Ian was also the name of Cady's friend in Mean Girls. Easter Egg?
