We took DS to Auburn on a hunch that it could be a good safety. Had never been to Alabama before that week.
We loved the days we spent there in the early spring and the 'townies' were all, to a person, incredibly pleasant and helpful. The whole town vibe was so relaxed and friendly and engaging. DS went elsewhere but I will always remember the pervasive good vibes and white barbecue in Auburn, AL |
| George Mason University has really come a long way in a short time. It has some excellent programs. On-campus student life has improved, too. |
| Furman’s campus was beautiful. |
Same, commuter regrets, now living vicariously thru my kids! |

It’s just me and DS, it’s bittersweet in some ways but I’m so excited and happy for him. He’s got several options to pick from and we are going to tour his top choices over the next few weeks.
So many schools have amazing facilities and offerings and I can’t wait for the moment he clicks with one and makes up his mind. |
Enjoy the tours and the time together with your son! |
This is awesome. |

So we are UK / US citizens whose kids were mostly educated in Bethesda Md and in LA CA. We decided, led by our son, to completely by pass the circus which is the US college application process.
Both he and our DD (same grade) applied to very prestigious universities in the UK in early Sept and only 3 wks later they had offers from most of them, including their 1st choices. All this for the cost of $30 application fee plus the college board fees for sending SAT and AP Exam results. |
| At Amherst, the Office of Sustainability has a “free yard sale” at move-in where they give away items students would have discarded in spring (& encourage freshmen not to over-buy for their dorm room before checking this out). I wish every college did this!! |
It really is! None of us expected to like the school as much as we did. |
| Montgomery College provides free education for my dual enrolled DC, and for myself as senior citizen |
Completely agree with this! |
+100 I have three kids and absolutely loved the college visit process with all of them. |

When I took my DS to tour CNU, the part that stuck with us most was when "Miss Linda," the dining hall supervisor, came out to talk to our tour group in the food court area. She was just the loveliest, most genuine person who spoke about "her" kids with such affection. She seemed to really know them all by name.
This was four years ago, and my son chose a different school, but we still talk about Miss Linda with fondness. |
Our kids remember her! Same year. She was awesome! We know so many kids who love CNU, and are graduating this year with excellent outcomes. Don't skip it. |
