Nanny knowingly spread germs to my child

If she’s a good nanny this is a psychotic thing to fire her for, at least not without giving her a chance to understand your concern and change her habits. Kids get germs from everywhere - you cannot keep them in a bubble, nor would that be healthy.

Shut up troll.

OP, these things would gross me out too. Look for someone else.

The drinking directly from the bottle is definitely a dealbreaker OP!
No exceptions!!

And you are right - everyone knows it is just common sense not to do that - most especially in someone else’s home! Eww 🤮
And to top it off she had a cold….??!

I agree that not washing her hands after using the bathroom is also very unacceptable but I find it really weird that you would stand outside the door + listening to if she washes her hands afterward.
This might be a dealbreaker if I caught my boss doing this.

But what I would do is begin a new Nanny search.
Then when you find someone you can let your current one go.

Whether to give notice or not is entirely up to you.

OP is the weird one here, didn't she see who she was hiring? She probably pays pittance and hired just someone off the street

Op, when anyone in your family or child is sick, do you give your nanny the time off? If not then shame- SHAME!- on you for KNOWINGLY spreading germs.

I'm surprised that half the comments here are critical of the OP and/or excusing the nanny's behavior based on "immigrant culture"!

This nanny lacks basic hygiene. It's common knowledge to wash your hands after you go to the bathroom, across all cultures.

Chugging from the juice bottle was totally inappropriate. Plus the nanny lied.

I'm pretty chill overall but would absolutely look for another nanny. I would not be able to trust her judgement, plus it's gross.

+1. Letting her go is probably doing her a favor. The OP would be awful to work for.

She’s gross. Time to replace her.

You're nuts. I think the nanny is actually hostile and this isn't just ignorance. So there pp.

Who are you people who are so idiotic as to assume everyone is drinking from this large bottle of juice? Idiot!

It was worded poorly. The op definitely gives “the Help” vibes. I wonder if nanny is only allowed to use the basement bathroom and bring her own tp.

I confronted her and she pretended to be confused, that she thought it was her juice bottle, which is total BS because she never brings her own beverages. She always consumes our cans of coke, makes herself fresh coffee, etc... I am fine with her consuming our beverages, but obviously not from something that is shared. I assume this is common sense to everyone. She likes to complain about the cold, so earlier in the day she even mentioned how she's been a bit sick but is taking medicine. Meaning she drank directly from the bottle knowing that she was sick.

This happened this Wed, and I haven't fired her yet because I obviously don't have anyone lined up. It's now Friday and I noticed both kids have runny nose and one seems to have a sore throat. To make matters worse, just last week I noticed that she doesn't wash her hands after using the bathroom. You can hear as she flushes but there is no water from the faucet before leaving the bathroom. I literally stood by the door and told her to please wash her hands every time she goes, then she walked right back in to wash them. I've already started looking for new nannies, but I can't hire just anyone either.
