DC pays elementary school gym teachers six figure salaries, but somehow your school doesnt have heat? Please. Liar. |
Schools are pretty shitty here. We spend a ton of money on them and don't get much in return. Even kids who do well at the "good" schools seem to only get into ho hum colleges. I just think we should expect more. People here seem to search for excuses to cancel school. It's not like this in many other parts of the country. |
Private gyms or DPR? Because rec centers are closed and surely you're not suggesting the government should force private businesses to close due to snow? |
Do not talk about things you know nothing about. You sound like an MCPS parent more than a DCPS parent-definitely not a compliment either. |
DP but I am also skeptical that there are DCPS schools without heat. If there are, people should talk about it and get it fixed. It's very easy to make claims like that on here but unless you are willing to say which schools, I can't take that seriously. |
Consequences meaning I chose to live outside of dc so I have to use leave when they don’t close. |
How much do you think heat costs? Or do you still send wood into school with your kids for the teacher to throw in the fire? |
They haven’t plowed the snow emergency route in my neighborhood yet. So I think it’s going to be full closure tomorrow. |
If a DCPS school is without heat (which I doubt), it's not because of lack of resources. DCPS has plenty of money and heat is a basic building function. |
Lots of DC kids get their only meals of the day at school, but, sure, let's cancel school for the second straight day because you prefer not to drive in snow. |
It's not PP's decision, or yours. So your anger is misplaced. The mayor makes decisions according to what's safe vs. how to feed kids. It's a very difficult decision. If you feel strongly about it, try to contact her office. |
Mmkay. Enjoy having your kids home tomorrow. |
Nailed it. |
No. Sorry. You all tried this line during COVID. You don’t give a damn about The Poor Kids. You want YOUR OWN KIDS in the building, and think playing the bleeding heart card bolsters your case. It does not. |
Because school food is disgusting, they just throw it away anyway and somehow always have money for junk food. This argument is played out and tired. |
