Are you saying the far traveling makes sense when there are multiple competitive teams within an hour or less of each other?

No, I am saying that you should make an informed decision before your player joins a team in one of the leagues above.

If you think is too much, then have your player join a team that plays more local teams.

the best leagues which give you a better future prospect requires you to travel far that likely to cause talent to be stranded. For metro area like the DMV we should only go play in NC of FL at u17 and up!

Well. I can say that we knew what we were signing up for when we agreed to play at this level, that being ENCL.

I am happy that the SC teams dropped from the Mid-Atlantic a couple of years ago so we avoid that trip and furthest Mid-Atlantic trip now is Wilmington and Charlotte and those weekends at least pick up games in Raleigh on the way back.

Now that our DD is older, we do have the "showcase" events so we do have a really busy spring schedule with trips in December, January, February and March, flights for January and February.

Fricking Playoffs again on the West Coast! I thought I heard that they would be moved back East or at least Central. I'd be happy with that even if that meant the Finals were moved out of Richmond! Yeah San Diego - here we come!

Lucky that the work travel that we do pays off with enough airline miles to fund the trips, but realize that not all are in that situation.

Showcases are one of the dumbest things about US soccer
Kids getting evaluated after flying or driving for hours and worse, they are at 65% performance on their 3rd game when the scout decides to evaluate them.

If your player is doing the job, scouts know you player before the scouting happens in the game. Constant communication should be key and highlights etc.

MLS Next travels a lot. However, this year the league is actually making effort for teams to spend the weekend playing the away teams to eliminate all the driving back and forth.

Also, if you weren't such a jack maybe you can find other teammates that would be willing to carpool with.

Gotta love soccer parents like this.

Don't hate because I am right.

What are you 14?

no but it sounds like you might be

I guess the point those who respond like this are missing is this unnecessary travel is bad for the sport. It's bad for talent retention and it's bad for morale is the families who are supposed to support their child. So yes we could just stop the madness and play EDP, but it's not going to change anything for the players with a lot of potential who simply give up on high level soccer.

This. People who accept the existing excessive travel of mlsn and ecnl are part of the problem.

If they made the league accessible to the poors, you'd discover that your ida aren't as high level as you thought.

So what’s the point of traveling to the showcase?

Yes but how does a person stuck in the system change it? If I make a stand and not participate there will be another all too ready to take our place. It’s capitalism and the free market. This isn’t just a youth soccer problem. It’s the same in youth volleyball, gymnastics, baseball, etc.
