Are people on H-1B visas worried about the deportation plans?

Well, the guy that DOGE fired and rehired tweeted that it’s “time to normalize Indian hate” and to get rid of H1Bs.

Bannon and Miller hate the H1B program.

Elon gets bored with things quick, so when he is bored with DOGE we will see what starts happening.

For some reason they think this is going to be cracked down on though I've heard nothing about tourist visas being changed.

H1 holders make decent salaries, if they pay local women for babysitting, the racial tension can def soften. You know, giving back to society.

I have been trying to warn people that maga hates anyone "foreign" or brown for a long time. If you are a white appearing H1B things will go better.

Even supporters of the H1B program admit it is generally abused to bring in lower-paid, perfectly average foreigners.

They want to get rid of the lottery system and implement a true merit system where companies have to show a need in truly advanced areas and applicants have to show they have those very unique skills.

They all say if you move to this kind of system there are plenty of H1Bs available because probably 75% of the current holders would never qualify under the new system.

DCmoms have little knowledge on the skilled workers category. There are artist visas for the art community, there are EB1 for extraordinary abilities or specialized skill, there are also visa for people from EU or Japan to just randomly come over to work/intern. The problem with H1 is the fraud and abuse.

But magas don’t have the best judgement, why should we blindly do the opposite of what they believe instead of making informed independent decisions?

While Americans may want those jobs, it is unlikely they would ever get them. Do you think a company wants to go through all of the hassle of hiring layers and dealing with immigration. It’s because that’s who is the most qualified for the job. No one is stopping you from applying.

Most of the companies hiring in H-1B visas are large multinational corporations. They aren't hiring a lawyer to process a single H-1B visa. They have a team of in house immigration lawyers who process visa applications, often in multiple countries, for scores of employees every year.

And it's just not true that there are no Americans qualified fur these jobs. Usually they are simply jobs with a high degree of competition for qualified applicants-- the program helps reduce competition for those jobs, which is great for companies but not for the skilled American workers who are qualified for these roles.

And even if there is a shortage of qualified American applicants, shouldn't the US be seeking to educate more citizens for these good, high paying jobs? Quite often H-1B applicants attended US universities to obtain the specialized knowledge needed for these jobs. Foreign students at top American universities keep increasing. These are most often kids of wealthy families who can afford to pay the full cost of international tuition. Isn't part of the argument with Trump that qualifies white Americans are being kept out of top schools by "DEI" candidates? Well a huge amount of the "diversity" at top schools is wealthy foreign nationals.

So it's like a scheme whereby universities give spots that could go to Americans to foreign students in the name of diversity (even though really it's about the higher tuition they can charge these full pay applicants), and then those students use these degrees to get jobs their corporate employees claim there are too few Americans qualified for.

It just seems like if Americans are pissed off about immigrants taking jobs and resources, the H-1B program is a great example of a system designed to screw over Americans. Whereas I don't know a single American who is upset about not being able to get a job picking fruit or de-boning chickens at a processing plant.

I work for a 60 person company where our focus is international relations. It is beneficial to us to have employees with different perspectives and we've sponsored about 6 H1B's and 4 O visa's in my time here. Sure we could hire American's but again, it's beneficial for us to get diverse perspectives.

How many Indians ( immigrants or children of immigrants ) on this Board? I am one. This is so sickening- “ time to normalize Indian hate”.
If you or your parents are of Indian origin- please stop supporting MAGA. They hate all POC.

Please speak up - because the misrepresentation on this thread is ridiculous.

If you don’t want more Indian immigrants, stop offering them jobs. Period. If you don’t want more Indian ( foreign ) students at your US universities, stop offering them a spot and visa. Period. Don’t legally invite them here and then bash them and hate on them.

My father’s tourist visa was rejected when he went to renew it ( he had a 10 yr one prior)- this happened during 2019. He has not been able to travel here since then and guess what, it is difficult for a family of four to travel to India every year vs 1-2 parents to visit us each summer. When they come here, they spend money on buying American goods for themselves and their loved ones back in India. They are contributing to the economy - not taking a penny from it. My parents refused to apply for Green card and have retired in India. I know dozens of families like mine.

Please stop the hate. What you say and think trickles down to your children. We see this hate at our schools here. If I had a chance to do over- I would have never immigrated here. My life in India would not be easy- but it would just be dealing with different set of issues, vs constant racism here ( overt and subtle). But most people immigrating do so in their twenties and are incapable of thinking long term about possible effects on family. I can’t go back now- because I have been here for 25 years and India is foreign to me now. I do not have an Indian passport ( the US makes u give it up when you become a citizen, and there is no dual citizenship).

It doesn't help when JD Vance with an Indian wife was a vocal proponent of rehiring this guy...because of idiotic tweets that he made as a young man of 25.

What's worse, these tweets are from like 6 months ago...these aren't 10 year old tweets they dug up. Here are his greatest hits:

“Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool,” the account posted in July, according to the Journal’s review of archived posts.
“You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity,” the account wrote on X in September.
“Normalize Indian hate,” the account wrote the same month, in reference to a post noting the prevalence of people from India in Silicon Valley.
The user appeared to have a special dislike for Indian software engineers. “99% of Indian H1Bs will be replaced by slightly smarter LLMs, they’re going back don’t worry guys,” the user posted in December, referring to large language models such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

If they wanted those jobs they should have majored in engineering or physics, instead of dance history or communications.
