I do not like Thanksgiving. Why is Thanksgiving your favorite holiday?

I really can’t think of one good thing about it. Pressure to travel with screaming kids nonstop, squished into a house, terrible food (and I mean TERRIBLE. There’s not one spice present in the food on the Thanksgiving table I go to), cold and often snows and I have no control over any aspect of the holiday. It’s the worst. Maybe the pie I make is good (honestly the other pies are terrible). I can’t cook or bring dishes because we travel so far in advance. Turkey is cooked several days before Thanksgiving, then sliced and heated up again in the oven. I’m an adventurous eater and I find most of the food inedible. Kids whine nonstop about the food too which makes for a lot of extra battles with the kids (they won’t eat and then they’re hungry. If we make them eat, they fight us and whine. Can’t win). It’s completely joyous compared to all the other super fun holidays with incredible food. I actually really like Turkey, but properly basted, stuffed and sliced on the middle of the table while everyone watches.

I know the thread is about why people like it but I like answers like this.
The food is terrible. Can we all agree that the food is terrible.

There is a reason turkey isn't eaten much around the globe. It get way too dry, even with basting and stuffing and whatnot. If you had a tiny turkey, maybe... but here they sell you huge ones for large dinner groups, and those are invariably nasty because they need to spend more time in the oven.

A really good alternative is capon, which retains more moisture, but Americans don't seem to run to capon. Duck tastes different, but it's another great poultry alternative.

Don't forget that the first Thanksgiving foods involved shellfish, fish and no pastries (because no butter or wheat flour).

I love getting together with my family. I love celebrating an American holiday that has been celebrated since 1789. It makes me feel proud of my American heritage. The food is great— it’s all about the sides! It’s a time of happiness.

I like the fact that I have the whole week off, and an excuse to stuff my face lol

I love Thanksgiving. We’ve been hosting for 16 or so years so I love family comes to us and I must say, I host a good Thanksgiving (compared to what we’d get if we went to one of the grandparents).

I love the food, the family, no gifts, the general coziness of the day. And when the actual day is over, the festiveness of Christmas is in our faces (in a good way! I love the decorations, Christmas music, general cheer).

Compared to Christmas - so much pressure to have that one perfect day. And when that day is over - lights and decorations come down, Christmas music stops, there is no more cheer. Just the dreariness of winter.

When I was a kid, I thought it was boring. No presents, just eating food I didn't like. Now that I'm an adult, I love it. Our neighbors love cooking so we just show up and eat and drink. You don't have to decorate either. It's the best holiday for me now.

Fall is my favorite season
The food is awesome
Four or five days of holiday
Family and friends
Cozy house
Still warm enough for spending time outside

It’s not served around the globe because it’s an American bird! It almost became our National bird. They definitely are in this area wild. Chicken is probably the only bird that has massive popularity in every country.

Turkey is not a very dry bird, it’s just that most people have no idea how to cook it. My family fries a Turkey and it’s just amazing.

Umm isn’t the meal the entirety of Thanksgiving?

So-called Thanksgiving is a cisgender white-male holiday.

All the cousins!! It has been our “big” extended family holiday all my life and I love it. All are welcome. No one talks about controversial stuff. The kids all play, we eat way too much, and everyone goes home. It’s glorious.
