Same with me |
Why don't you tell us why you don't like Thanksgiving? |
| Seems so gross to me to celebrate the attack on indigenous cultures and independence, but Americans seem to love that sh$t. |
It is a harvest feast. It is not the same as the Pilgrims feast, which would have had to be much earlier in Massachusetts, although that is the lore. Thanksgiving was technically established in 1941. |
We aren't celebrating that. We are celebrating all of the many blessings of the prior year that we are thankful for. No one is standing around chanting "Rah rah we really stuck it to those Indians!" |
| I love the parade on tv. It's a whole holiday of just chilling at home, with focus on good food, ushering Christmas and winter in a cozy way with family. |
11:01 and 13:51 are both me, OP here. Giving a bit of explanation. |
All the pictures books my kids read say it was Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War at the behest (after a decades long campaign) of Sarah Josepha Hale? And anyone who enjoys stories of strong women should love Hale, who wanted the holiday simply as a time for Americans to get together and celebrate a harvest feast, as mentioned above. |
Army brat here. So true. It's like a cozy, enchanted wonderland. |
| It’s kind of nice because it’s a nothing holiday. Minimal decorations, no gifts and not as commercial as Christmas. It’s a bit of a sad holiday in that it’s about giving thanks to native people who went on to be slaughtered for their efforts. But that’s in the past. |
Nobody is thinking about the natives they are thinking about their own lives and what they are thankful for. If Christmas can evolve into a secular holiday about snowmen and candy canes, so can Thanksgiving evolve past whatever the original intention was. |
We aren't giving thanks to native people. That is not the history of Thanksgiving. Some of you just make up stories in your head. |
|
I love it!

Since that’s exactly what happened, yes, you are in fact celebrating that. Surprised someone needs to spell it out for you. Well, not that surprised. |
This right here! I hate the stress of Christmas; pressure to buy gifts, pressure to decorate, pressure to send cards, dressing up for holiday parties...... Give me thanksgiving any day. |
