| Because I’m a clutz and always order my drink in a larger cup so I don’t spill it in the car. And I don’t like my drink too hot so I always max out the creamer. But if you order it like that on the app, 9 times out of 10 the barista will think they’re doing you a favor by filling the larger cup to the top. I’d use the app if there was some kind of notes where I could indicate I really want room and I’m not just “hacking” the menu, but I can’t so I don’t. |
What Starbucks stilll has pour your own creamer? They used the Covid excuse to get rid of them along with sweetener and they never came back. |
No one lives in a city for easy access to Starbucks, but it's also a fact that if you live in a city you don't drive there-- you just stumble up on one every other block when going anywhere. It's just weird the PP assumes everyone is driving to Starbucks. Even most people who live in suburbs or car-centric cities are not making special trips to Starbucks in their cars. They are going there while already out or on their way to or from work, because there's one next to their office or the grocery store or their gym. I don't love Starbucks but I go there probably once a week because it's convenient to something else I'm doing and I want a coffee. And yes I use the app when I go because it's convenient and sometimes offers deals. |
They don’t, but at least I can explain I want a grande special roast with two sugars and plenty of milk, but in a Venti cup because I spill things. Whenever the barista hears I need room because I have a shaky hand they always give me enough. No way to communicate that on the app. |
I agree! It's isolating. |
+1. I go to Starbucks when traveling, or when I feel like buying coffee out and there’s no better alternative, or if I’m going with a coworker or something. Maybe 10x/year max. I don’t want an app on my phone for that. Also, I live in a city and typically walk there for a break if I’m going. I don’t need to save the 5 minutes it’ll take to wait in line. |

Just wanted to note that using the app does not diminish my interaction with people at Starbucks. I go to the same one every week because it's on the way to pick my kid up from an activity where I always have to wait for a while -- I like having a latte to sip while I wait and it makes an annoying chore more pleasant. I order on the app but always chat briefly with the barristas when I pick up my order. They recognize me and will often wave when they see me come in or hand me my order directly.
I do think people at Starbucks appreciate with people use the app because if a bunch of people come in to order, that will tie someone up at the register for several minutes during a busy time when it would be helpful to have someone else helping with orders. Like if it's dead in there it's no big deal to take an order at the register because they aren't busily trying to get a bunch of orders ready. But during peak hours, using the app saves them time so they can expedite drinks and food and get through the rush easier. You can also easily tip on the app. But just because you are using the app doesn't mean you can't be friendly or interact with people. You are just sparing them the tedium of punching in the items on a screen and then processing your payment. |
This!!! Plus, I hate needing to rely on my phone for everything. |
| Why not just let folks live the life they choose to live and accept that getting coffee is a different experience for different folk? OP, are you suggesting that we should all want to do the same thing as you? We are all individuals. Let us all live our own lives and mind our own damn business. If it makes sense for us to use the app, so be it! If we want to take a walk with a coffee shop as a destination, that should be fine, too! If we want to make coffee at home and save money or a trip out, cool! Stop trying to make rules for other people and live your own life as you choose! We have bigger issues than policing a Starbuck’s line! |

If i order from my house it's cold by the time i get there.
I don't text and drive. So I'd have to do it in the parking lot, seems weird to do that. |
| I drink black coffee. I like seeing it be brewed in front of me. I do pay with the ap when I have money loaded (ie gift cards.) |
On the app or website, you select add-in cream and then you can specify 1/4, 1/2, or 3/4 inch of cream. |
| I was anti-app until I realized you don't need an account or to load money to an account to use the app or Starbucks website to order ahead. You can just use the app with no account and pay per transaction with Apple Pay. It's very easy. |
| I’m not lading money on some Starbucks card and giving them a loan. |
| You can’t do 1/2 pumps of syrup on the app, sadly. |
