It's laughable that you think Jane Austen isn't. DP |

Perhaps this has been said already, but in my mind the most famous of these is MADISON. From Splash!
"Madison? Madison's not a NAME!" - my kids were so confused when they heard that line in the movie a few years ago! |
Willow has been a beautiful name for a long time - it certainly had nothing to do with the very strange Smith duo. |
The link in the post above yours (based on social security name data) shows that Emma had already had very growth in popularity prior to the show. It did have an additional uptick after the show and then another burst around 2010. I looked at the SS for the specific ranking and Emma was a top 20 name (#13) in 2021. The Friend's baby was in 2002 and since 2003 after that the name has been in the top 3. So the data indicates that Friends was following the trend, AND yes, boosted it further, but it's not a name that BECAME popular because of the show. It was already popular. |
Thank you. OP is clearly a millennial moron. |
Charlotte and Olivia are pretty classic names. |
Right—not because of the BRF. |
| Tristan - Legend of the Falls |

I was named Amy, when Jimmy Carter was president. My mom thought the name was cute but truthfully also liked the character in Little women.
Cousin born in 1989 named Willow after the popular movie with Val Kilmer. |
| Khalesi or however you spell it from GOT. It's not even her name! |
I was born in the 60s and there were no Olivias or Charlottes in my classes. Also there were none amongst my mother's generation (1930s/40s). While old names, they are also cyclical. |
I associate it with the character from Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the 90s in terms of pop culture references, rather than Willow Smith. I definitely know some Gem Xers with kids named Willow and they are way more likely to have been inspired by Buffy. |

Diane - a popular radio tune circa 1927. It was my late mother’s middle name because my grandparents loved that song!
|
| In the 1950’s, I think Deborah became popular due to Deborah Kerr. |
| Megan from The Thorn Birds. It first aired in 1983 and the name picked up popularity starting in 1984 and for the next decade. |
