Should students with 4.0 UW, lots of APs and SATs in the mid-upper 1400s should be concerned? |
Interesting. My husband went to UVA 1986-90, but was rejected from JMU. |
The school is much bigger now than in 1986, probably more than double the size. |
JMU seems to know what it is doing.
They attract quality students in greater numbers than in years past. I don’t know but it makes sense that in one way or another they yield protect. They have an exceedingly small endowment for a school of this size and need a steady stream of students. I am not sure their small endowment makes any difference to students though. The school has a good reputation and offers value in today’s environment. One of the schools I graduated from has a low endowment but high private school prices (Georgetown). Lots of well off people as a result of discounting being limited. Got to hand it to JMU for finding a way to grow. |
HOW was she rejected by VCU? Everyone 3.5 and above is automatically accepted. |
|
Yeah, it makes no sense for a student with a 3.9 to be rejected from VCU. She must have screwed something else up on the application. |
This is the first year for that policy. |
This is a ridiculous statement. It's low compared to Ivy schools, but it's not "low" in the scheme of things. It's #27 in private universities and #44 overall. |
Publics and privates are apples and oranges. |
Jmu is a great school and we have c suite people at my Fortune 500 people who went there. I’d be happy if that was one of the schools my kid chose. |
Yes, the previous year was 75%. That was why I said there were a lot of surprise deferments and eventual waitlists. And also said why I'm curious what the CDS will show for those that are freshmen this year. Please pay attention. |
What makes it great? |
I am tracking but I am confused as to why lots of people from your school were not admitted, when most people are. |
I don't think you are tracking because you don't know that most people were admitted because as I keep mentioning they haven't released the acceptance rate for current freshman yet. But its not just my school, I heard that there were a lot of surprises from other schools. Which probably means the rate was lower this past admissions cycle. Several of the kids that I know that didn't get in only applied ot JMU because they thought they were a shoe in and had to scramble to apply to other places once they got waitlisted. |
