Is it still easier for boys to get in? |
All that matters is: what the admission's landscape is like from your high school. |
I agree about checking out the stats from your high school, but just for example's sake. At my daughter's high school, narrowing down to just last year, 31 kids applied and only 3 were denied. The lowest uwgpa accepted was 3.38 and TO. The lowest wgpa accepted was 3.52 TO. Sounds like some of those high stat kids who were waitlisted may have a little yield protection going on. |
weighted and in-state. School only posts weighted gpa on transcript. |
Sorry, meant to say we are OOS, in MD |
On the one hand, JMU loves OOS tuition dollars. On the other hand, if you are in MCPS, your GPA is much more heavily weighted than most Virginia schools, and you are not comparing apples to apples. In my FCPS school, you’d want a weighted 3.7, unweighted 3.4 AT MINIMUM, for JMU. |
Have you visited? We went two weeks ago and they said “don’t send your SAT scores- really- save your money because we won’t look at them.” They want As and Bs and some rigor. |
True. I got into UVA and JMU in 1992. I had two good friends that did not get into JMU but did get into UVA. (So I went to JMU and was very happy and they were happy at UVA!) It was unpredictable. |
HS graduating classes of 2022 and 2023 (respectively). |
Dc1 2024 got in to jmu honors college w 4.1 and 1380 sat submitted. Fcps so in state. Went out of state to another school though, but seriously considered it.
Dc2, currently a hs junior, 3.5w gpa and 1200 sat. Hoping to bump up the gpa and sat but I’m nervous. |
JMU was only a 30% acceptance rate in early 1990s. They significantly expanded enrollment. |
Got in from non-DC private w 3.4 w TO in 2022 with solid ECs. That was about the cutoff edge for the school. Instate. |
The point was unpredictability |
Lots of surprise deferments and eventual waitlists for JMU from my child's high school last year. I'm definitely curious what the acceptance rate will show when the CDS for this year is posted. 3.5 weighted wouldn't get you in from Virginia last year, not sure about out of state. |
3.5 gpa is still decent. |
