Women - Why or when did everyone stop using tampons?

Team Flex Disc. Life altering.

Same here. After kid # 1 had to move up to a larger cup. After kid # 2 even the large cup wouldn’t work. I found a disc that worked though (with period underwear as a backup). Now after kid 3 (and extra heavy weird early 40s periods) I am back to tampons. But I’m using organic ones without chemicals. Tbh they don’t absorb as well as the OG tampons I used growing up, so I just change them really often.

None you cup-wearers chanting about the environment better have a 3-row SUV, have more than 2 kids, or keep your AC below 76 and heat above 66.

I do all of the rest for the env - except for heat, I need that at 68. But AC is on rarely, like 2X a summer.

But I don’t eschew tampons for the good of the planet, that’s all selfish - I don’t want that in my body.

Same. I just bleed too heavily now. Often use ultra plos tampons and pads at the same time. Can’t imagine the massacre that would be a cup full of one days blood

Cups usually last a good 12 hours. I’ve never had to empty one in public.

You empty it more often. But if you have a heavy period or it's your heavier days, you just accept that it's a messy process. Women who must empty it in public places (like work) may not enjoy it during the day but may like it more overnight or on the weekends.

If I see anyone emptying their cup in our communal sink at work I will go ballistic!

DP, but back when I used a cup I had the disposable cleansing wipes for in office days. I agree it would be gross to traipse from a stall out to the sink to rinse it.

Team cup for over a decade. Never had to deal with the imaginary grossness you are talking about in public restrooms. Used to use OB tampons, but once I switched, I never went back.

I tried to hang on to using a disc longer than I should have and my DH made a few comments about the “crime scene” in our bathroom so I knew I had to go back to tampons. I guess I wasn’t as good at cleanup as I had thought!

It should be illegal to empty it in public places. It's a blood bath. And rinsing it in a communal sink? That is NOT safe, it's a huge public safety hazard not to mention gross. Just don't.

Unless you are eating out of communal sinks this isn't a public safety hazard. As a cup wearer I just wipe it in the stall and reinsert. It isn't that hard, can be messy but you don't need to rinse it.

This is unhygenic. When you enter a public bathroom, I assume you are using your fingers to close/lock the door. "Wiping" it and reinserting it without sanitizing your hands is an invitation to have whatever you picked up on your fingers in that stall, to start growing inside you.

Ok, I know this is going to sound crazy but if it is the rare occasion where you have to empty your cup in public then you prepare for that. It isn't that hard. We are women and we can multitask! And if you think I touch ANYTHING in a public restroom you would be wrong. I always have hand sanitizer on me because of fecal matter because people are disgusting.

I'm serious - please explain exactly how this works. How do you "prepare for that" when you are in a public restroom? See the PP for her take ... waddling in and out of the stall? Do you squat over the seat, splashing blood when you remove it? And when exactly do you use the hand sanitizer, before you reinsert the cup? Isn't hand sanitizer made of ALCOHOL?

What do you mean? Do you carry a tampon to the public restroom? Preparing for that? Do you squat over the toilet splashing blood when you remove a tampon? Have you heard of OB tampons that have been around for decades? Considering the number of women using cups have you seen a blood bath in the restroom or women washing their cups in them?

I'm a different poster, but couldn't use OB. I tried and they didn't absorb enough and I couldn't shove them up high enough to be comfortable. If I sneezed or coughed they'd shoot out. On my heavy days I'm changing a super tampon every two hours round the clock. And yes blood splashes into the toilet when I take the tampons out during those 48 hours.

Cup or softdisc user. The softdisk you can empty when going to the washroom without removing. Also use period underwear.

Same. I empty from the night with my morning shower and change before bed.

Do you carry it in your purse?

You can’t predict when you’re getting your period so you always have it with you?

Genuine question, I’m old and curious

I pretty much know when I'm going to get mine by a day or two. Also, mine is extremely light the first day and I could get by by lining my underwear with toilet paper if I needed. Or until I could run home or to a store to grab tampons.

The cup - so awesome - you don’t feel it.

Honestly have had to set reminder to remove.

What? Yes, most people can, in fact, predict when they are getting their period. Up until perimenopause, I was every 31 days like clockwork.

Same. It never fit right. Maybe I should have tried more kinds, but I am fine with tampons.
