Women - Why or when did everyone stop using tampons?

I was in a group of similar aged women in their late thirties-mid forties and no one had a tampon on them to offer but all had maxi pads.

I started using a cup about fifteen years ago, and now I have an IUD and no periods at all...so I've not had tampons or pads in a very very long time.

I use a cup for a lot of reasons, and the environment is not one of them. It's convenient, clean, I only have to empty it 2 times a day, no leaking, no worries, I can't feel it.
