Vibe at William & Mary

.

Um... I used to live in Williamsburg. It is very much in the middle of a swampy area.

But those aren't the water bodies people go to, are they Susan?

More like College Creek, Jamestown Beach, Yorktown Beach.

On a beautiful April day how many William Mary students are at each of the three beaches? These posts make it sound like it’s ASU at Lake Havasu.

A lot of kids, actually. And on a beautiful day in September the same. And W&M isn't even in the middle of a desert, so no probably not the draw of Lake Havasu. But ASU and W&M are in entirely different geographies.

A little bit of a tangent but I'll ask...

Would you ever consider going to a school like Davidson, Wake Forest, Dickinson, or Franklin & Marshall instead of W&M if they were all options? It really does seem more like a private SLAC and so I"m wondering if the private SLAC is worth it if you have in-state tuition at W&M.

Definitely not from my perspective.

UVA has a lot of people who dress exactly alike, especially females, and wear the same hairstyle. WM does not have the “sheeple” vibe. Uniqueness and individuality are celebrated. The SAT ranges preTO were almost identical: both had 25% above 1480-90 at that time. So both have smart kids , yet neither had the 75% or more above 1480 that the ivy/stanford group had at the time. That makes a more balanced undergraduate group where bright kids can shine rather than be buried by 3x as many bright ones. At least that’s what we sought for ours. YMMV

Wow. Generalize much? I'm glad you think their stats are the same - their rankings are vastly different. Sheeple U continues to outrank W&M in every meaningful way. Glad your kids are enjoying it.

UVA does rank higher in # of sexual assaults and rapes. Good point.

UVA and VT rejects attend W&M.

UVA: 1470, 60% submitting
W&M: 1470, 60% submitting
VT: 1360, 50% submitting

Someone even found the data for the engineering school at VT and found the average SAT for engineering was the same as the average for the whole school .

Correct. The smartest stem kids do not even apply to VT for engineering from the top high schools especially stem magnets. Somemof the recent smartest have chosen physics at WM over VT (and uva).
