If you are voting for Trump based on immigration- why?

Trump doesn't go nearly far enough. The borders should be 100% closed to immigration for a decade or so, and many deportations need to happen during that time.
After a decade, then start merit based immigration only. That is the only fair and equitable immigration, when it is based on intellectual or job-related ability only. No "refugee" junk.

You don’t want any economic growth and are pro-inflation.

You cannot have "constant economic growth via immigration" forever. There has to be dips known as "corrections", or else it all collapses, which we are on the brink of now due to fiat overspending and borrowing.

The US dollar is on the verge of collapse due to immigration and government borrowing/spending. It will collapse the entire world economy when it happens, and it will happen if politicians are allowed to keep on this same course they have had over the last two decades.

I'm a teacher. Do you honestly think a class in which 75% or more of the students are learning English as a second language doesn't impact the instructional pace? That's not a racist comment. It's a big challenge for the teachers and students.

I’m still appalled that teachers are supposed to deal with this. I subbed a few times in a school like this and was completely overwhelmed. No one was learning anything at all. It is so incredibly unfair to both teachers and students.

The problem is this area. When you grow up along the border it is a much more seamless process. I had numerous classmates who only spoke Spanish at home. It didn’t slow things down because teachers were far better at managing the situation and many spoke Spanish or some Spanish. The rest of America just needs to catch up. Being monolingual as a teacher makes things much harder. Schools will catch up.

In what dream world do you live that most teachers and school staff in this country will be bilingual?

But you probably won’t like the solution. Pay teachers higher salaries, which would raise your property taxes. Get rid of all the admin and special programs which would reduce individual attention. If you have huge classes, poorly paid teachers, too much admin, this is what you’re going to get.

But hey. This is what America decided it wanted for its education system. Immigrants have little to do with it but easy to blame.

Have you seen the border itself? There’s no way you will keep people out 100%. It’s too big and people come through by hiding in cars or by boats in CA.

Biden reversed Trump's policies on day 1.
Now people are claiming Trump didn't do anything.

Democrats don't oppose a wall because it won't work, they oppose a wall because it will.

Now they are saying Trump won't deport people. But they are against deportations to begin with.

DING

Notice all the hand-wringing about "immigrants are flooding our schools and making our kids dumb" bullshit never gets into detail. It's all noise with no evidence.

What? You must not have school age kids. The huge surge in ESOL kids in recent years is a major drain on most public schools in the area. It is driving how districts handle curriculum, how much funds there are for other kids, and in FCPS now considerations of redistricting. Schools are where the big negative impact of illegal immigration are shouldered.

It is not “recent years”. South Arlington was like this 15 years ago. Arlington’s “immersion” school is set up to give ESL speakers a leg up as much as it is for English speakers to learn a second language.

You must not remember a little while ago when Arlington parents were livid at the suggestion that ELL students be integrated into their precious schools. The school threads were in hysterics for months. Boy were they upset that they had to live with the policies they voted for!

Our property taxes were already raised by a huge amount this year. Id prefer it go to paying teachers more rather than this!

They were in the regular schools too then. Our school called itself “international” because it was so diverse.

And Democrats tried to claim this was debunked.

No, the rest of America doesn't need to "catch up." The border needs to be secured to illegal immigration. That's what needs to happen, and a majority of Americans feel this way.

None of your "solutions" have anything to do with massive illegal immigration and the incredible strain it's putting on our schools.

Surprise! Allowing millions of illegal immigrants into your country - any country - does not work. I'm wondering who it was who actually thought it would be a great idea?

A lot US citizens are really upset that they have waited years and years to sponsor family members from to join them from other countries while people are cutting in line as so many people claiming asylum are clearly economic refugees.

If you followed the official process and you are a US citizen who wants to sponsor your unmarried children who are over 21, the Department of State is processing applications filed in October of 2015- so 9 years. If your children live in Mexico the wait is even longer- they are processing applications submitted Jan 2003- so 21 years.

If you want to sponsor your brother or sister application filed in 2007 are being processed - so 17 years (and longer for certain countries).

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-bulletin/2025/visa-bulletin-for-october-2024.html

So now imagine you have been waiting that long and Biden in October of 2022 decides he is going to let people from certain countries cut in line. So he flies in roughly 214,000  Haitians, 117,000 Venezuelans, 111,000 Cubans and 96,000 Nicaraguans to the U.S. so far under the policy.

Now add to that all the asylum seekers who are economic refugees but are also cutting the line.

People who aren't immigrants or who don't have family members who are immigrants have no idea what is really happening.

This new wave is completely different and it is going to be a disaster. Historically migrants to the US have made their own way and don't immediately rely on hand outs and free housing (not including refugees and we actually don't take many refugees as a country). Listen to the podcast from This American Life 818 Stand Clear of the Moving doors. I suppose they meant it to be sympathetic, but the profile a group consisting of two families traveling with two guys that show up to the Roosevelt Hotel expecting to get free hotel rooms. The city buses them to a tent shelter where they can stay for free. The families leave and go back to the Roosevelt hotel to demand hotel rooms explaining ""They said they were going to send us to a hotel, but it wasn't a hotel. It's a campsite," says one of the men, "where we're all sleeping on cots. And we need our privacy for the kids. You understand? And the bathrooms-- they're not in the main tent. You have to go outside to use them." So the family has come on foot all the way from Venezuela through Central America and Mexico and the tent shelter being offered is probably way better than anywhere else they stayed along with way.

When so many are coming with an expectation that the US owes them something, it doesn't bode well for everyone else here.

The Finns and now Norwegians are erecting border walls between their countries and Russia due to third-country illegal immigrants entering their countries. And they only had about 1,300! Imagine their reaction to the millions we've gotten. Are Democrats going to label them "racists!!" for protecting their countries? Sounds like we need to take some border wall advice from the Nordics.

The Finnish government was prompted to close all crossing points from Russia to Finland in late 2023 after more than 1,300 third-country migrants without proper documentation or visas — an unusually high number — entered the country in three months, just months after the nation became a member of NATO.

Inspired by Finland’s project, Enger Mehl said that such a fence could also be a good idea for Norway. According to NRK, her statement was supported by police chief Ellen Katrine Hætta in Norway’s northern Finnmark county.
