The Sting of Budget Cuts

Just know that if dollars aren't spent from a teacher's salary admin might write up negative reviews that affect your employment as a teacher.

This is awful.

This is why my sister quit teaching after 20 years, She is now a part-game nanny and tutor and makes her own decisions. She simply tells her clients what she needs and they give her money to buy it. And no admin crap like political correctness. REAL teaching.

Agree. That is where all the incompetents go. No thank you.

Yep. Looking at you Casey Crouse. I cannot believe that imbecile still has a job.

Let's talk specifics. What would we cut so that, instead of a 1 student per class increase, we could have a 1 student per class decrease?

Our school supply list is a lot smaller than past years.

End contract with Highland Electric Fleets and get electric school buses from a company that is not ripping us off.

No furniture available. Need a stool? A desk? Nope. None to be had.

RT told us we will not be able to order more supplies (and we have already had to buy our own….)

High school.

A good start. What else? Are there division in MCPS responsible for constantly changing the curriculum? Getting rid of those would be a win-win.

MCPS budget for 2024 is $3,320,000,000.

That’s $3.32 BILLION dollars. And that’s just the operating budget which doesn’t include Capital spending.

Thank you. How much do we need to trim from non-educational sources to fund enough teachers to have 1 or 2 fewer kids per class?

Our school doesn’t have tissues and won’t have copy paper until at least next week

There's been so much waste these past few years that it should have almost no impact. Sure, they may have to have a few less comms firms or special audits done but not like that ever really helped anything.

1-2 kids isn't going to make a difference, 5-10 kids will. There are lots of things to trim that are unnecessary. The BOE is the first thing that needs to be trimmed.

Its time to hold MCPS and the BOE accountable.

Ending the Highland contract would free up $50M.

PP. I agree with you 100% but 5-10 is a pipe dream. The first thing we have to do is reverse course, so 1-2 fewer I stead of 1 more would take a Herculean effort.
