Yawn. Go to bed, Steve Austin. Your kids are in Frederick County schools and nobody wants to listen to your dog whistles anymore. |
He made sure to visit this group of new teachers:

Taylor was included in Marc Elrich's press briefing yesterday (towards the beginning) and shared some things about staffing and vacancies, work happening over the summer, and the back to school fair.

This article recaps what Dr. Taylor said in the Elrich video if you want a faster summary of the information: https://moco360.media/2024/08/08/ahead-of-upcoming-school-year-mcps-superintendent-focuses-on-safety/ |
Taylor's new hybrid virtual learning plan for some MVA families:

How many MVA kids actually have a legitimate medical need that precludes in-person instruction? |
Its a joke. It's not funded nor BOE approved. After being told no, they are relying on the county council to give them more funding. It's a money grab. Then, they will blame the county council for not funding it. |
Realistically how much could it cost? There's probably less than 50 students that would even be eligible, much less interested. |
It’s a logical proposal, though it’s not clear how viable it is to your since it relies on the council funding it and the council has already made clear they’ve emptied the coffers as is for MCPS. But I don’t see what else he really could’ve done since Felder and the BOE cut it from this year’s budget. |
Is it logical? What if they fund it and there are no students that actually need to be virtual? |
Then students who want to opt in should be able to. Not rocket science. |
That's why they are asking people to fill out the interest form now. |
He is really good at listening. That seems to be all he wants to do.
I imagine that they will just deny all of the parents requesting the new IIS program. Then they will say that since not many students qualified, therefore they won't need to open it. |
If they go through with the virtual school plan, I hope they include home visits. Far too often parents keep their kids out of school to hide abuse:

And who is watching for abuse in schools? |
