As my rising senior is researching colleges she has fallen in love with California mission architecture. She's not going to get into (or even apply to) Stanford but is now looking at other schools simply based on the campus. Fortunately schools where I think she would thrive so her affinity for this style might be fortuitous.
You do you, OP ..... |
like I said, uncultured. Enjoy your $3mil “colonial” that looks like a combination between lincoln logs and the exterior of the Colonial Williamsburg Fairfield Inn. |
You are so mad, lol. |
They would have a great Alma Mater to sing at every game. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=c8qvo7CfEf0 |
See! Architecture matters! Yay! |
Brilliant! |
I love it. Absolutely gorgeous. |

Stanford >> Duke

This person really is triggered. Calling people uncultured? OK PP, I grew up in CA in a Mission style home in Malibu which I loved. Also attended Stanford and thought the campus was ugly because it looks fake and out of place. I guess I'm uncultured. |
I wonder where OP is from. I'm from S Texas, Hispanic, and I love this style of architecture because it reminds me of home. UT ATX doesn't have the exact same style but doesn't utilize the red, terracotta tiled roof. My home was nothing but Saltillo tile. It's just the style in certain areas because of local product. I think OP needs to get out more. TBH, I prefer these warm styles over cold, drab E coast looks. But I think it does depend on what you grew up with. |
It's 2024 and white people still argue about things that they think look and feel too "ethnic". It's really unbelievable. |
This is such an odd thing to say. That part of the peninsula is pretty dry and definitely not forested. Whatever you might think of the architecture, the campus overall is designed to allow students to soak in the area's climate and nature. This was actually one of Jane Stanford's goals. It's certainly not New England...and it's not even Berkeley which is much hillier and greener. But don't go to school on the peninsula if you don't like the feel of Stanford campus. |
The irony being that this is the architecture of missionaries from Spain... |
| So much free-floating anxiety and insecurity, with a touch of boredom, on display in this thread, starting with OP. |
Whoosh! (That was a joke. It's a reference to a song from about 15 years ago that was all the rage for a couple months. See the "Alma Mater" post a few above.) |
