20yo DD addicted to piercings

The belly-button piercing was something she always wanted and is happy about.

However, when she got the nipple one, things were rough and it was a way of doing self-harm (and getting that momentary relief) that no one would see.

Getting a piercing for that latter reason doesn't solve the problem, and then can lead to wanting to get more piercings (to get more temporary relief). My niece said that after the nipple piercing, she wanted more. She's agreed to hold off for now, and I'm hoping she removes the nipple one because of the intentions behind getting it.

Why so much opposition to nipple piercings? They are completely hidden so they can’t affect job prospects. Plus, they heighten sexual pleasure; don’t you want that for her?

Because when they poke through your bathing suit or you are going braless, you look like you just got off your shift at the strip club. Trashy.

Is this right? Mine is considering a nose ring this summer.

I got a small stud in college and never had an issue with infections. I didn't really have any other piercings and barely wear earrings today. Can't really remember why I did it - for fun, for something different. It didn't last long. I wouldn't worry. Lots of piercings like OP is talking about I would be a little more concerned what is going on behind the scenes that is making her want to have control in her life to that extent/experience that pain - can sometimes be a thing with lots of tattoos and piercings, hx of trauma etc.

Just make fun of her. About all you can do.

Oh please.

File that under: things which never ever happen.

Nipple piercings are fine.

I know of no one who has nipple piercings, and would definitely think about them differently if I found out they had them. It’s trashy, as previously stated here.

Um - of all the people I know well, I can’t say I’ve examined any of their nipples (and I know many people).

How would you have any idea whatsoever, PP ?

I recently found out that a colleague has them, and has had them for many years. She's a successful attorney, married to another successful attorney for several years.

Am horrified when my 23 yo DD comes home in her summer halter tops with her boob jewelry poking through. I am embarrassed to be seen with her. I can somewhat understand the PP's colleague above, who apparently has them as a personal and private thing.

99.9% of them are personal and private (as are nipples in general, in 99.9% of women); that is the point.

Have a triple in your ear is different that walking around w a safety pin in your eyebrow for giggles, or nip rings for the boys or nose rings for the emos.
