My DC is not highly motivated in improving his SAT, even though it’s the only thing he can do to move the needle. He got a B and a C taking calc BC as a junior.
I still don’t understand what GPA kid has to have to get into Engineering. Does it have to be 3.9 and above?
Just to clarify not CS.

That's a lesson on hyperacceleration for those that follow. I'm sorry the you weren't able to make the needed adjustment after first semester.

It's a shame that the school allowed that to happen, and didn't transfer your kid to Calc AB. There is no good reason to keep a kid in BC with a B grade, when AB is an option.

He had A in calc AB the previous year.

That means he got a B in a semester reviewing the exact same class he got an A in just 3 months prior, and then a C in the partly new material.

It's hard to get that low a grade in BC unless you did absolutely 0 of the new material, or forgot substantial of the last year material.

That shows a substantial "junioritis" derailing of academic trajectory.

I'm shocked that fixing that wasn't the lead of your post.

Enlighten me, it’s too late for this summer. The next year is not changing his transcript now.

You retake the whole class next year for grade replacement.
Previous year grade gets expunged.

Talk to school.

Your child should do that. They are not ready to Multivariable Calculus.

All of my kid!s merit offers (not U of MD) were for each of all 4 years (assuming she kept her grades up).

Presidential scholarships, which are up to $5k in-state or $17.5k OOS, are for four years. Dean’s (for in-state only) are for one year of $1.5k or two years at $4.5k.

Saw someone claiming they got 12.5K in state this year. Not sure if they are exaggerating or amount got raised. Anyone know?

12.5k over 4 year perhaps. In state max is $5k per year for 4 years.

No, it's $8000/yr tuition plus $1250/yr for books.

(Actual sticker price is $10000 + $1700 fees + $1250 estimated books = $13000. All the rest is room rent, food, and travel.)

We are about talking the presidential scholarship not Banneker key

Others have said UMD feels this is DD’s safety and only offering some to wet the appetite. DD is now enrolled in a T20 school that actually offered more $$$ than UMD.

It's actually WHET the appetite.
