The kids think it’s all right because their parents were okay with the lack of integrity around the test and the NDA the kids signed. |
What about administration and equity recruits? Aren't they under intense pressure to show the non-merit based TJ admissions is not a lost cause? |
I could not find this online. Any good keywords or a link you could share? |
I don't remember that it ever made it into the news. I don't remember if we even had a school assembly about it or anything. I just remember all the anger from kids about that essay supposedly tanking people's chances at Yale for the next couple years and teachers lecturing us about it. And yes, I realize this means I can't substantiate what I said. But ask any alumn from 2001-2004. |
This has actually been good for the school environment. They don't want to flunk anyone out anymore so there is a lot of grade inflation. You basically get a B for effort, so the pressure to get good grades is diminished because it has gotten a lot easier to maintain a good GPA for everyone. To be fair, TJHSST was maybe the only school in the area with such strict grading practices. Once the kids don't have to worry about their GPA, they can focus on developing their personal academic interests. |
“Equity recruits”? STFU. |
Mount Vernon's inflated grading practice should be implemented not just at TJ but all FCPS schools. Equity for all! |

Hahaha, I think there are many kids at TJ that would fundamentally disagree with this. I have seen nothing that suggests one gets a B for simply showing up. I'm so glad most of the kids don't read this nonsense. One of my toxic traits is actually reading these boards. (And responding). |
Ha PP. The bolded is so true. |
It doesn't look like students start that way, but it's the false premise upon which their admission offer is based. Students who lack proficiency in low level algebra 1 math are being thrust into an unusual level of rigor that their middle school does not sufficiently prepare them for. Qualified algebra 1 students can be admitted but that evaluation mechanism has been eliminated and replaced with a nonsensical essay. This places innocent students under pressure to perform, putting their integrity to the test. |
No, your post is inaccurate and offensive. I don't know if you believe that nonsense that you keep posting or if you're purely trolling - but it's really obnoxious and you should stop. |
+1. If it's the same IP posting all this nonsense and really flooding every thread with it, Jeff should ban. Turning every single thing into a referendum on the admissions changes gets old. |
DC is a sophomore and really only complained about one major cheating thing in the last two years - someone took photos of the math test this spring and circulated them. This was reported to the school by other honest kids and the curve was eliminated apparently.
There haven’t been other major incidents I’ve heard of from DC at least. (That impact others I mean vs using AI to do papers) |

I know, right. Girls used to not be well educated at all, and now with all that education they are wanting advancement. It reminds me of the wisdom of Gaston “It’s not right for a woman to read. Soon she starts getting ideas. . . and thinking”. |
