My DS was in a similar situation and deciding on an ED school.
Emory and NYU were the top two final choices.
He went with NYU and didn't consider Emory to have better prestige.

Northeastern, BU??!lol. Your son is one person, not the majority. And yes none of those schools have ever been ranked higher than Emory. The gap between Emory and these schools are growing. People from the Northeast keep trying to elevate their declining privates. Like Northeastern? Give me a break.

These Emory people are really delusional still living in the 80s

https://www.parchment.com/c/college/tools/college-cross-admit-comparison.php?compare=emory+&with=New+York+University

NYU: 56%
Emory: 44%

The gap is closing and Emory is not regarded more prestigious, maybe slightly but negligible.

Average SAT
Northeastern: 1435
Emory:1380

Retention
Northeastern: 98%
Emory: 95%

Graduation rate
Northeastern: 91%
Emory: 90%

4 year out median salary
Northeastern: $89K
Emory: 82K

Northeastern actually beats Emory in every major metrics LOL
I suspect Emory people posting here are in their 70s 80s

Lol what?! 1380? Emorys median is 1500.

Test Optional could skew the numbers, so this is from 2018 and it's average.

No need to use third party sites when both schools just released a recent CDS profile this month.
Emory- 1500, 92% Graduation rate, 96% yeild.
Northeastern- 1500, 90% Graduation rate, 97% yeild. Remember only 35% of NEU students submit test scores.
https://provost.emory.edu/planning-administration/data/common-data-set.html
https://uds.northeastern.edu/facts/common-data-set/

So again, pretty much on par similar to the other sources.

If that makes you feel better. What separates them is the reputation, and NEU doesn't have a great one.

You seem disappointed at the data and facts.

Well.. how do you measure the reputation?
Tons of high stat kids(same quality as Emory) apply and attend NEU.
In fact, more kids(close to 100K) apply to NEU, thus reputation among students seems great.
Not any less than Emory.

Also NEU is known for great reputation among employers, and thus produce great outcome.
Not any less than Emory.

Another Emory delusion.

At our private, there is a notable difference in gpa between kids getting into Emory/Tufts on one hand and NE on the other. NE pretty actively yield protects and is not (yet) getting the same caliber of applicant.

Emory is big on yield protection and has high ED acceptance rate.
That's why my DS choose NYU and Emory as final two choices for ED.

Don't get me wrong. Emory is great school and that's why it was one of the final two for my DS.
However, delusional Emory people need to stand down.
Prestige factor is negligible compared to the NE schools mentioned.

Didn't Tufts invent yeild protection. NYU is also not on Emorys level..

It's' the Ivies that invented yield protection and ED.

NYU is harder to get in with 7% acceptance rate (at least for Stern, CAS, Tisch).
Emory is not on any level higher than NYU. Only Emory people believe that.

Yes most of these 2nd tier selective relatively prestigious schools like Emory, NYU, Tufts utilize ED and have high ED acceptance rates.

I would pick NYU Stern over Emory.

Despite NEUs low acceptance rate, NEU students can't get into Emory.

+1

Also, my head would spin right off my body if I heard of a graduating senior choosing a school that was known as a 4-year community college for decades. Rankings may have changed, but you can’t shake that rep so easily.

What's the matter with BC? Who cares if it was a commuter college for decades? What students care about is how is the institution today?

Hahaha! Well, there's no denying that the Northeastern defender(s) is relentless.

WTF
Gaming? Reputation??
Emory is known and proven a cheater school.
Emory folks are really shameless.
LOL

Emory 2023-2024 Common Data Set
975 accepted ED; 3024 applied
ED acceptane rate: 32%
3,088 freshmen
ED admittees make up up 32% of the freshmen class

Tufts did not list ED stats on the 2021-2022, 2022-2023 or 2023-2024 Common Data Set

For comparison's sake:
Boston College (2022-2023)
1,246 accepted ED; 4,428 applied
ED acceptance rate 28%
2,327 freshmen
ED admittees make up 53% of the freshmen class

Not from the CDS, but for 2024, 1,375 ED admittees, with an acceptance rate of 32%

Boston University (2023-2024 Common Data Set)
1,791 accepted ED; 6,866 applied
ED acceptance rate 26%
3,145 freshmen
ED admittees make up 57% of the freshmen class

Northeastern University (2023-2024 Common Data Set)
1,420 accepted ED; 3,672 applied
ED acceptance rate 38%
2,738 freshmen
ED admittees make up 52% of the freshmen class
For this cycle, they supposedly had 6,400 ED applications

NYU (2022-2023 common data set)
NYU does not list its ED applicant number or ED acceptance rate
For this cyle, they supposedly had 22,000 ED applications

So Emory lists their ED acceptance rate and the number accepted. NYU and Tufts do not. Take that for what it is worth.

Emory Intentionally Cheated on Rankings for More Than Ten Years.
https://taxprof.typepad.com/taxprof_blog/2012/08/emory-intentionally.html
https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2012/08/20/emory-misreported-admissions-data-more-decade

"These individuals intentionally misreported data concerning entering students' standardized test scores and class rankings between 2000 and 2012 to standard reference sources and third parties who rank colleges and universities. The falsified data aimed to boost the university's rankings. For example, while the office reported an 89% graduation rate within the top 10% of the class, the actual figure stood at only 75%. Consequently, following the investigation, the individuals responsible either resigned or were terminated, and the university issued a public apology to address the misconduct."

Probably the biggest cheater school in the history of US college is talking about rigging gaming whatever.
What a shameless people.
Seriously Stop.

Emory if prestige and major are factors.

Most people have never heard of Tufts.

I did not know this. Thanks for the information. To my knowledge, Tufts has never been accused of cheating.

Tufts has the official title of King of Yield Protection a.k.a 'Tufts Syndrome'
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yield_protection#:~:text=Yield%20protection%2C%20sometimes%20referred%20to,enroll%20in%2C%20more%20selective%20institutions.

However, UPenn is the one originally invented yield protection by creating ED, then right away all the Ivies followed.
At the time UPenn had over 70% acceptance rate.

Anyways nothing can beat the official title of King of Cheaters.

Northeastern over Emory? You are deluded. No one would do that unless the money was dictating.

Agree on this. From Massachusetts and I always thought Tufts was a joke. Learned later it is not but it is not Emory or BC.

Tufts if your child is into biological sciences. The hate for northeastern schools is stupid. Atlanta might have better weather, but the draw to faculty in working in or near Boston is undeniable.

Emory might have more pull in Georgia, but if your kid wants to work or go to grad school in NY, New England or the northeast in general, no one's going to claim Emory has any advantage whatsover.

Anonymous
The outright cheating by Emory and its not-that-Oxford Oxford campus is sus as hell.

Tufts has a classic urban, northeast elite vibe to it. That isn't changing nor inferior to a southern school.
