I 100% support both the Palestinian people and the Israeli people and 0% support either Hamas or Likud/Netanyahu.

What is sad is how the message and rhetoric is being co-opted.

Do you have proof of this? Or any links to articles backing up your perception.

Someone I know from college posted video on IG from the solidarity camp at Northwestern University last night. She's a 43 year-old mom in Chicago with no connection to Northwestern.

The encampments are like a flame for the moths - you get all these terminally-online hardline voices showing up to protest for Gaza. And then you get the hard-right pro-Israel counter-protestors bussed into Columbia to protest outside the gate. It's like a convention of idiots with megaphones.

Perfect description. Thank you.

At this point, neither side accurately reflects the opinion of the majority of Americans.

Thank god.

Wrong. A vast majority of BOTH Jews and Muslims support a permanent ceasefire as of mid-February. Both groups also flipped on age dependency. Also, see the chart about where the general population places the blame for the Gaza violence.

Your supposition that the protesters are primarily interested in a ceasefire is... interesting.

Understands the law perfectly well. Harvard has hundreds of organizations where membership is restricted. Those who want to show their support for killing babies can create their own encampment.

What exactly does she want to convey by shouting that?

I saw the full video: police officers were arresting someone and she came from behind to try to stop them, insulting them repeatedly and touching one officer. Then she threw an epic over dramatic tantrum and resisted arrest. She thinks that being a professor means she should be given a pass to break the law.

Oh? Show us this video.

I also saw the full video and PP’s description is accurate. The professor was trying to interfere with the police. She FAFO’d.

Professors have a RIGHT to protest. Full stop.

Sure she does. She doesn't have a RIGHT to prevent the arrest of others or to resist arrest.

What a load of crock! An unarmed, non-violent, older woman, verbally advocating on behalf of her students who are being violently handled, is not a threat nor resisting arrest.

Of course this is the most militarized country in the world, it’s full of neo fascists who have finally found an acceptable cause.

She interfered in a police action, then proceeded to physically insert herself.

Doesn’t matter how old, what color, gender, profession….she violated the law and was arrested as a result.

The tough guys strutting around talking a big game and defending authoritarian crackdowns on speech they find uncomfortable and inconvenient were the same guys cowering in corners last century, which makes their 21st century bravado kinda sickening, to be honest.

Actually they don’t. I would fire a professor or staff person who did this on campus.

Well looks like the president of the university will be fired for arresting them.

If you only see the shortened (edited) version, you don’t have all the information. The police didn’t arrest her out of the blue.

The crazy thing is that if you see a police officer committing a crime while doing their job they can arrest you for saying it out loud. Try pointing out that what they themselves are doing is criminal. You will find yourself cuffed immediately for "interfering."

That whole First Amendment thing gets a little wobbly around the police.

To be fair I believe the police need a little buffer to do the work. To be extra fair, I believe more than a few people have suffered criminal abuse at the hands of police who take advantage of that buffer.

Emory University is now virtual classes.

I cannot believe American students are protesting this but have not been protesting Roe being overturned with this much fervor, which has far more direct effect on their lives. I swear it’s a TikTok influence thing.
