Probably more in state kids are accepting the original admissions offer. It’s not taking seats away from in state kids, just maintaining the planned balance.

Yeah. OOS tuition is $70-80k, correct?stbe didn't get the aid they thought

It is the cheap instate option for strong applicants n VA (like UMCP Honors in MD).

I thought in the past the state schools had a limit of 25% OOS - but maybe that was in the 90s. In terms of admitting OOS, VA does seem a bit on the generous side. Some states like Florida limit OOS to 10% for all the Florida public schools combined.

VA gives very little funding to its state schools. They can generate more $ OOS kids.

UVA has 3 types of instate applicants. Those with legacy connections, high stat NOVA kids looking for a solid safety and first timers and URMs looking to take advantage of emerging woke admissions policies.

I thought woke policies were going away with the court's ruling on affirmative action.

And using legacy was just ended by Youngkin and the state legislature.

No, they are going away as a hook only with a direct question about race and a direct answer about race. Instead, a kid can talk about his race in his essay and it can be considered that way.

There is no more Affirmative Action in college admissions.

Lol. Evidently they are “emerging!” Please let me know where to sign my kid for the brand new “Woke App” that has emerged in college admissions. PP might have a heart attack if she finds out there are applicants who are legacy, high stats AND woke (I think PP means black).

There is so much misinformation and misunderstanding about the SC decision. You are incorrect, it is illegal to consider race as a factor in college admissions, period. It is still legal to consider life experience and circumstances….so a student who is first gen to attend college, low income, other challenging factors, may get different consideration (white ones too). However, rich black kids who go to Sidwell are not getting a bump. Put this to bed.

Cheap? Along w/WM, two of the most expensive in-state public schools in the country.

You forgot high Stat kids who simply like the school...even, wait for it... over higher ranked schools. You snobs are insufferable.

Are you okay today? Do you need some deep breaths and a long bath? Because “high stats” NOVA kids do not consider UVA a safety. Legacy has been banned in VA publics. The Supreme Court has weighed in on using race, so there goes your notion about URM. As for first gen, what’s particularly “woke about that”. That benefits the white kid from Appalachia just as much as the inner city black kid.

So basically every point was completely misguided
