I’m in this camp. I am heavier than anyone else on this thread, definitely obese and wear a 14/16. Can’t find the meds anywhere. I’m frustrated. |
That’s just not true. I am 5’5 and 150lb puts me at a BmI of 25. Basically under 250lb and I’m a healthy weight. You aren’t “clinically obese” at 5’8 and 150, you are a healthy weight. As someone who is 5’5 I’m not even obese until I hit 180. |
If you’re a woman you NEED to have body fat. Way higher than a man. You need to menstruate, right?? If your body fat gets too low, like a gymnast, you don’t menstruate and it’s not good for you. This class you took was not helpful. |
Under 150!!!! Fat fingers sorry (haha) |
So you agree, it’s useful at the population level. That’s just what you said. |
^This couplet. Just wow. |
This. I have a teenage son and we were at a national competition and so many kids are overweight. So many. |
It’s useful both at a population and individual level. All the attempted anecdata here to cook up exceptions won’t change that. 90% obese people are extremely unhealthy, and it’s probably higher than that. That’s the reality nobody wants to face. And, if they do “face” the reality it ends up being a bunch of external forces causing these issues and has nothing to do at all - ever - with individual behavior. See a pattern yet? |
I was diagnosed as clinically obese at a patient first and handed the mandatory flier on how to lose weight when I was wearing size 27 jeans and a kids medium tee shirt. I'm 5'2 and take barre four times a week and run half marathons in the 1:50 range.
I am max, 10 pounds heavier than I should be. |
I mean… what you’re wearing doesn’t tell us anything. Lots of obese/overweight women squeeze into clothing that is clearly too small for them, probably in an effort to convince themselves that they really are that size. |
Sadly, this was all measured and part of a college fitness class. I was 32% fat and therefore clinically obese. Which is the same reason BMI is crap- body composition is what matters, not weight. |
Gymnasts are more like 8-10% body fat. Yes, that’s unhealthy if it’s not your body’s natural state. |
Just go to a parking lot. I’ve seen cars circle the parking lot multiple times looking for a spot right in front. No one wants to walk. Look in restaurants, most people are obese. Look a a grocery cart, so much processed foods. No one cooks anymore. They all want convenience. They they sit in front of the television and stream shows all night eating snacks. America has an obesity epidemic. It’s a big problem. But everyone wants to take a pill or shot to fix it. |
Yeah, screw those people. Let them die of heart attacks or strokes. Cause they don't deserve to live if they are this lazy. ![]() |
I didn’t see any of that in what was posted. I did see a lot of true facts. Do you dispute any of that as it relates to the American population and their behavior? |
