Women and men’s brains are different according to this Stanford study

OF COURSE the brains of males and females are very different. Males are far more prone to violent behavior and impulsivity - that is evident in the behavior of kindergartners, teenagers, young adults and older adults.

Acknowledging difference doesn't undermine women - women are capable of equal if not greater intellectual achievement and are less inhibited by overactive sex drive and propensity for aggression. Yes, some women are aggressive - but in far few numbers than men.

Testosterone is not a good thing in large quantity.

Testerone made our world - explorers, adventurers, innovators. Yes, women are intelligent but cautious. Men are impulsive and thrill seeking - and that's a good thing.

Oh, and here’s me thinking that the species survives on reproduction and collaboration.

There are plenty of adventurous women and always have been - but it is only recently that women have been unchained from their reproductive capacity and from being coerced and controlled by men.

Try again.

Some women were “allowed” to explore, like Amelia Earhart. There was also Marie Curie, but her accomplishments were mostly given to a man until after she died. . .

To PP - you know the history books were written within our sexist (and racist) culture, right?

Yes!!! How to transgender brains factor into this! We need more info.

Transgender is more than "thinking" or "acting"; it's "being" at a more fundamental level.

Yep, and therefore, it should be observable in objective data. We need more data!!

This subject is fraught at the best of times, generally it's taboo. Just read this thread to see why.

First intelligent comment on this board. Brains are known to have neuroplasticity which means they change due to their environmental conditions. How do you separate our sexist environment to understand true biological differences. We can't.

Yet you can observe these differences from a very young age. The only people who think like you PP are people who have never had kids or raised them. People like you think they are going to raise a perfectly gender neutral child and own't subject your precious to a sexist environment until real life slaps you upside your stupid head.

Actually I do have a PhD in the subject and two kids..... but whatever you think layperson...back to cancel science if it differs from your world view.

Sure. So impressed by your online PhD in gender studies.

yep, any view that differs from yours should be immediately dismissed and the person insulted. Great tactic! Go Trump!

When you can't make a case freak out and scream MAGA! Is that what they teach in 8 week nine PhD programs?

So, throughout time women have always been held back, thwarted, oppressed, etc. Why do you think that is? Is it random chance?

It's because testosterone-driven violence has oppressed women for thousands of years - and continues to do so. Men worry women will laugh at them, women worry about the potential every man has to snap and murder them.

Try again. I have a PhD in neuroscience. I know this will just provoke another insult, you’ve demonstrated you are triggered. Lemme, guess, you don’t believe me - I must be a troll - quick find another insult to discredit me - blah, blah, blah. My credentials are not at play here. I don’t care what you think or believe. Just ask yourself - why are you so triggered by a different opinion on a subject that has little or no bearing on you personally. Whether or not this is nature or nurture cannot be changed. Brains are neuroplastic and change through time (google it). Any studies done on adult brains cannot separate the cultural element, because the brains have changed through time (fact). Why does that scare you?

I’m not even saying that one brain is different or the same as another. I’m simply questioning the study. I think you’ll find other neuroscientists are also questioning that study - google it.

DP. I'm not going to question your bona fides. I'll accept them.

I am going to point out that this study goes against the current view of sex and gender so if course there will be pushback. That doesn't mean it needs to be dismissed. It does mean that it is stepping into areas of research that are treacherous, if not outright forbidden.

Much easier to question it and find flaws.

Why do the results scare you and cause you to dismiss them outright? You're the one who needs to take a step back instead of reflexively scoff that maybe your preconceived notions may be based on faulty science.

When you see images of a third world country devastated by war, pestilence, disease, or natural disaster, who is keeping society together and raising the next generation so that "the world" continues? WOMEN. And so it has always been. Why don't you go award yourself another medal for your explorations, adventures, and innovations.

Maybe, maybe not....it needs to be demonstrated and it just hasn't. I dismiss nothing and question everything. It's kinda my job - no "reflexive scoff", we call it due diligence.

You're an idiot.

Men and women's brains are absolutely different. They've known about this for years. For example, DNA methylation patterns for tissues in the brain are different in men vs women.

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41380-019-0416-2

https://epigenie.com/sex-on-the-brain-dna-methylation-defines-gender/

We need to stop treating men and women the same, because they're not. It is scientific fact.

This. Nothing new here

I guess you would question a study that says water is wet as well. Too much invested otherwise.

“Trust the science!”

(unless it’s contrary to your worldview, of course.)
