Do schools give hints before March 1?

I’m sorry, PP.

We were not told anything directly, but the woman who did our parent interview at Maret could not have seemed less interested in talking to us. She went down her check list of questions, not really responding to what we said or engaging in a back and forth conversation. It was so unlike the interviews we had at other schools. We’re taking that as a hint.

We must have had the same woman at Maret as same experience for us too.

Good luck to everyone trying to be patient waiting for news in the next few weeks.

Yes, this period of waiting is a little nerve wracking. Thanks for this kind note.

My DC is pretty nervous! Catholic High School decisions are released in our area on Thursday at 4pm!

We were told in advance by phone call that my twins got in. I can't remember how much earlier, maybe a month, and they said they gave me the early heads up because I was an alumna of the school.

Hoping the best for your DC!

Which schools specifically are you referring to?

We’re applying as a sibling family and I can’t tell if it’s just as nerve wracking or about the same as the first time we applied. I think we would be more disappointed if sibling is waitlisted this time around. School has given no indication one way or another.

Yes. AD reached out to DC’s school to ask whether the school was DC’s top choice. We didn’t answer in the affirmative but said it was among the top choices. Another school, AD sent a very nice, personal note to DC after shadow day. Both schools are what you call Big 5.

Sounds like our parent interview at Sidwell. Oh well.

This is so weird.

I've had kids at Big3 schools for years. If I was doing admission interviews I'd be super enthusiastic. Why waste your time doing them if you're not going to be enthusiastic and enjoy getting to know the applicant and their parents' stories?
DC parents are just some of the oddest individuals on the planet.

Yes, we were recently given a hint that our DC would not be admitted to our top choice. It is a big 3.

A hint by whom? The AD of the school, or from your current school?

Was it the African American admissions director?

Unlikely. You already know when decision day is, they don’t need to remind you.

Yes, it does happen. A few years ago, when DS applied for 9th grade entry to a local private, he received an invite to an athletic practice prior to the official decision day. I figured DS was already in, or that admissions were so on the fence that they had thrown it over to a sports coach to cast the final vote. DS was offered a place a few days later (which he subsequently turned down).
