Do schools give hints before March 1?

I’m sorry, PP.

We were not told anything directly, but the woman who did our parent interview at Maret could not have seemed less interested in talking to us. She went down her check list of questions, not really responding to what we said or engaging in a back and forth conversation. It was so unlike the interviews we had at other schools. We’re taking that as a hint.

Same for us at Maret! Clear hint they don’t want our kid.

I'm sorry to hear that. Did your teen feel the same way about the interview (perhaps she's just that way with the parents?). The MS admissions interview was very different. We really enjoyed talking with the MS AD.

Good luck to everyone trying to be patient waiting for news in the next few weeks.

Yes, this period of waiting is a little nerve wracking. Thanks for this kind note.

We got a personalized email recently from a coach at DC’s “safety” school (which might end up being the best fit anyway). So I’m hoping that’s a good sign. 🙂

Thank you for this laugh today.

How far in advance do they tell sibling families?

Sometimes as soon as the interview, sometimes an email on the day of decisions. I've had friends experience both scenarios.

For the Admissions people or even others at the school, dropping hints is all risk and no reward.

All the Admissions decisions likely haven't been made yet. And there's always the possibility of change at the last minute. The various constituencies at the school may be lobbying for their favorites through-out the process. Higher powers might intercede at the end with their own candidates or even vetos.

This whole process is more subjective than objective and even those to it aren't sure what's going to happen until it does. They'd be crazy to give hints because of the blow-back that would occur from people who thought they had a place only to find out they didn't.

Our youngest got strong hints of acceptance early on from the school our oldest attended.

Like what?

We got strong hint of both our kids acceptance after the interview. The AD said 'it looks very good for her'.. both times and both kids accepted 6 years apart.

Three weeks, but who's counting.

I have a child applying to HS and a child applying to college.

Tip - figure out how to relax in the process as it does not get any easier.

Love this! I DO NOT recommend online support groups, you will just be putting gasoline on the fire.

Are schools sending mass emails saying that decisions are coming soon?

We didn't get real signals from any of the schools until after admission. The school my daughter had as her first choice waitlisted her. I contacted the school to see if there was a chance and they gave positive signal while also asking for some additional info from current school. Child ended up getting off the waitlist.

No hints, but had boxes of swag delivered a few hours before 4 last year. Also, none of those packages were in our USPS informed delivery/ UPS Mychoice/ etc. notifications, and I remember this because I stalked those obsessively in the days leading up to decision day. Such a stressful and exciting time—good luck to everyone!!!
