Anyone traveling to see the total eclipse in April?

Anonymous
Whether you are traveling or staying put, remember to get the approved viewing glasses, as early as possible. In 2017, I ordered ours early on a whim, but I recall that close to the eclipse, a bunch of fakes (non-protective) flooded the market, so I was glad I did.

Hoping for clear weather for all!

We are in the path of totality (yes, I am on DCUM bc I spent my entire adult life in DC except for right now) and I'd be concerned about weather. But, what can you do?

Schools will be closed that day and our high school is renting parking spots to visitors to give people unobstructed sky and a safe place to stand. The cost is $20. We're expecting thousands of visitors.

We experienced the 2017 total eclipse and I still get goosebumps thinking about it. I had thought it would b be no big deal and was absolutely blown away by the actual event. We saw it in a completely rural and isolated area with no one else around and it was like we were on another planet. Just incredible. If we go to see the one in April, I definitely don't want to be in a city or around a lot of people.

I just posted about our experience in 2017 - the area we went to looked a lot like Texas hill country. It was the high desert of eastern Oregon - surreal and beautiful! Enjoy.

No. Most people do not look at the path of the last total eclipse to happen in North America for the next 20+ years and think “oh boy, only in red sh*t hole states.” Get off the internet and go live your life, that’s not a normal way to view the world.

My son goes to Case in Cleveland and we booked our hotel class April. Cleveland and the school has all kind of stuff to celebrate. My husband is super excited about it

We’re going to see it in Cleveland. We booked last Fall and prices were already sky high for hotels. Some B&Bs were reasonable (guessing they didn’t know yet). If you can stay over night. We went to see eclipse a few years ago in SC and it was a nightmare leaving.

Where did you purchase yours? I remember last time getting mine at one of the Smithsonian museums the week of, but I'd rather just order ahead this time, but obviously want to avoid any fakes!

DP you can order from Amazon. We got celestron brand. It comes with a map. The pic shows the 2017 event but reviews mentioned they received map of current event. Or you can order from any well known astronomy/photography brand website.

I just decided to also take off Tuesday. It’s one day.

Yeah coming back from SC in 2017 was horrible. We decided to stay overnight in Cleveland this time around. Missing 2 days or work/school isn’t that big a deal for an event this cool.
