What’s going on at Travilah ES?

The 2nd spot, assistant principal, is there 95% of the time.

I knew a principal who never parked in the assigned spot. And unfortunately they do have a lot of principal meetings. At least once a month. And of course personal time, etc.

As a former teacher at the school, I found it shocking how often this principal was absent and/or only worked part of the day. She is rarely there and in now way has her finger on the pulse of what is going on at the school.

Of course the principal is allowed to be absent. I think part of the rumors is how much she ripped into staff for any absences while being pretty lenient with herself. Double standards are tough. Assistant principal does the heavy lifting. Whole school has an unhappy and stressful vibe and now parents are reporting that principle is visibly being rude to or ignoring all parents involved in asking the Board for help. Very retaliatory/punitive atmosphere. Atmosphere is becoming more toxic, it less. Very stressful for teachers and kids!!!

I think the nasty comments insulting the appearance of some parents who have different opinions say more about the people posting them than they realize.

What other jobs does she have?

it’s on her LinkedIn saying she works as instructor for 2 different school/organization

A number of principals, directors, etc teach at the collegic level. There's nothing to see here.

Sure, but it's hard for parents to believe the principal can effectively manage the school when she has two other part-time jobs. This is especially concerning given the low 5th grade scores, the departure of teachers, and long-time secretaries leaving in the middle of the school year.

Do you REALLY think that the principal should spend ALL of her free time thinking about your mediocre 2nd grader who puts his pants backwards everyday while you sit at home on the couch, getting fat, texting with your other unemployed mom friends about the principal and creepily stalk the school parking lot at random times during the work day? When your kid is with you, all you do is scroll instagram and pinterest; yet, the principal should spend all of her free time thinking about your child when you don't even do that? You sound incredibly dumb and miserably bored. I have a full time job and I couldn't tell you which car was parked in which spot and I don't care. The principal isn't a slave on the plantation that has to account for every second of her time DURING the day and AFTER the day is over. Get over it, you unattractive, overweight, navel gazing idiot. And yes, I know this about you because attractive, in shape people who are successful would not be engaging in such drivel.

We are not expecting the principal to use her free time to think about individual students. Our hope is that the principal can focus on retaining teachers, improving student performance on benchmark tests, and creating a positive environment where teacher and kids are happy to come to school.

which all can be done during work hours. She doesn't have to be tethered to the school, kissing your middle class income a$$es. You want that - pay for private school. You want private school treatment on your tiny public school budget. Not happening. No one owes you anything. Just like when private schools opened during the pandemic and your mediocre children got further behind during virtual school - there was nothing you could do. Same here. Eat it.

I agree all things can be done during work hours, but did she do it? If so, what action did she take to retain teachers? We only have 3 k-5 teachers are still with Travilah ever since she joined, everyone else left. And also, What steps did she take to improve 5th grade test scores? Achieving just over 50% of students meeting the benchmark—that’s a joke! Can the kids who didn’t meet benchmark graduate?

So you think she should be NICE to the parents GOING OVER HER HEAD to ask the Board for help?

Are you really this dumb?

Yes I think she should be professional. This is in her job description.
Too many parents have already reported retaliations from this principal and it’s getting very scary.
Why wouldn’t parents believe the rumors that she retaliates and punishes staff, when she is doing it to the actual parents themselves? The parents need help at the school in figuring out what’s happening. The board is the logical place to ask for that.
Your tone is very nasty and unstable.

No I mean what was the story they spun about the low scores? Any explanation? The letter was bragging about high scores but that grade had horrible numbers.

Reaching out to the BOE gets it pushed to the Director, Chris Turk, for support and resolution.

We have no idea. Wondering if we can get the data from the past years to compare.

Bad parenting - refusal to reign in video gaming and cell phone use, poor diet, too much take out, not checking homework.

I'm not sure if that's accurate. My son has consistently scored in the 99th percentile in math since kindergarten. He doesn't play video games, doesn't have a cell phone or an iPad, we eat healthy home-cooked meals, and I always check his homework. However, he scored 2 out of 5 on a math assessment last winter. We weren’t aware of this until six months later when we received the gifted and talented letter. I'm really confused. Shouldn't the teacher/school have informed me if his math is really that bad, so I can help him?

Are you and his dad smart? If no, maybe your son takes after you. Or if you both are smart maybe your son doesn’t take to after you - perfectly plausible. Even the most perfect principal (who doesn’t have any side jobs, never moves her car from her designated parking spot and smiles widely to all of the annoying tattletale parents) could not have improved his score. Dems da breaks sometimes. 🤷🏼‍♀️
