Delay on Thursday? Or not?

Mine has been picked up in DC

+1, can we just do a delay please? Counts as a full day and kids are in class and learning (for all you people obsessed with “loss of instructional time”, as if MCPS is anything more that a glorified babysitting institute)

I don't understand- why would there be a delay? Are you seriously suggesting schools can't open if it is below 32F? That's insane.

Maybe you're the one that needs to go back to school if you think I said anything about schools closing because it's below 32F.

Kids go to school when it's below freezing all the time but there usually isn't black ice is there?

If it's below freezing, there's likely to be some ice. Did you even venture out of your house today? Conditions were fine.

Why is it that everyone in this thread thinks they can speak for the entire county? Conditions were fine where you were.

MCDOT said it was done and that streets were fine. That was a countywide assessment by the agency responsible for the roads.

Brian Hull needs to explain why they didn’t start clearing snow at some schools until Wednesday morning and Chris Cram needs to explain why MCPS lied about road conditions.

I'm pretty sure it's McKnight's fault. Can't believe the board is silent on this matter!

Very helpful knowing trash was picked up on some street in DC.

McKnight has always been happy to let her staff lie to justify her decisions.

The county is free to adopt a system that better fits it. That uses zones or something to better serve the cimmunity.

The roads were fine throughout the county. As they usually are. The main issue is that there are pockets of neighborhoods, often that have private roads, where things can vary. Even there the roads are almost always drivable, but some people don't like to have to drive below the speed limit.

School sidewalks and parking lots still aren't properly cleared! I just dropped my kids off at Matsunaga and facilities staff were outside just looking at the snow and ice! Three of them! Standing next to their equipment!

You're fine.

It wasn't really dangerous, but they've had more than enough time to either plow or shovel the snow away.

Yes, I am. But there's obviously a serious problem with how they manage their facilities staff. We're going to have more unnecessary closures if they can't get their act together.
