Cardozo: XQ is it Working?

Cardozo does offer Physics. A large number of 11th graders take this course.

At least they’re invested in trying to get the word out. Their principal clearly isn’t listening.

Students can be interested in engineering and benefit from engineering classes while not being accelerated in math. I don’t understand why everyone assumes thematic stem academies are only for students significantly above grade level. They do have physics.

You don’t have to be above grade level to take AP Calculus BC your senior year. I believe the reason people expect you to be advanced in STEM for an Engineering Academy is that you would not be able to get through an Engineering degree in college without high STEM proficiency. Isn’t the objective of a high school engineering academy to propel more students into engineering?

Calc BC means you do a full year of college math in HS. That is definitely above grade level. Not genus level work but above grade level. There are engineering college programs that do not require calculus in HS.

Nope. I’m a frustrated parent.

PTO isn’t happy with XQ either. None of us understand what the hell it is or how it’s supposed to help our kids. How are our kids supposed to own a business when they can’t do no math problems! 🤦🏾‍♀️

Mola knows how to play the political game but he does not know how to run a school. The fact that he is getting away with getting lower and lower scores year after year is mind blowing

No comments yet about creepy looks and comments towards female teachers… Now, that’s odd!

That’s a pretty lousy accusation to make without any real proof.

The XQ stuff is very true and accurate but even insinuating sexual harassment or otherwise without evidence is really unfair.

It’d be nice if XQ worked. So much potential. Sigh.

I can attest that Blake and Mola could care less about the students. For a long time they didn’t even include the Exceptional Academy (self containment) into the redesign. Neither actually cares about what’s good for students. If I were a parent I would be very concerned.

Mola has no issue cutting the throats of his staff (throwing them under the bus, scoring them low for not drinking the kool-aid and disagreeing with him and he is particularly harsh with Black women). Mola allows students to do as they please with no consequences or accountability and he calls that “love and care” it is extremely detrimental and does make teachers’ jobs way harder.

Blake is also gross. Everything he does performative and he could care less about the students. He also goes out of his way to sink people when they disagree with him or have push back against certain ideas. A lot of what he presents as his own work and ideas are actually the ideas of Cardozo staff and he spins it as his own without crediting the right people. The people that discussed him being hungover hit it on the nail. I have actually seen him drinking during working hours. He is a bully and actually feeds the students what to do and say during interviews and when the cameras are on. This entire initiative was a way of both of these men making headlines and adding to their resume. There has been no real regard for the students, their academic progression or assisting them through their real traumas.

Cardozo Employee:

If Mola and Blake listened to someone other than themselves, they’d realize that this is a waste of time and money, but not because the program sucks but because they still haven’t figured out how to roll out the campaign.

Isn’t the term e-skills just a fancy word for learning goals?

What is the point of LL Fridays when less than 50% of the kids show up to school and less than 50% of those kids end up wandering the halls for 2-plus hours?

Why is Blake trying to teach us about how to run a class when he can’t even answer basic questions about his own program?

Also, I dare him to answer a question in a normal tone, at a normal volume, and without using any of the following cringe educational vocabulary words/phrases in his cheerleader voice…

“We’re going to lean in”
“Do the work”
Leverage
Elevate
“Let’s promote enriching student engagement together!”
“We’re going to engage…”
“Student choice”
“I’m glad you said that…”
“We’re going to take it to the next level.”
“Student voice”
“We’re going to put this into action!”
“Meaningful, engaged learning.”
“Strong mission and culture.”
“Shared experience…”
“Lived experience…”
“Partner up with stakeholders…”
“Create pathways of/to learning…”
“Transformative learning experience…”
“Let’s all begin the journey…”

I don’t know if he’s a good guy or a bad guy - that’s not for me to say.

What I will say is that he is not good at his job.

I don’t know what our LSAT team does with the budget, but let’s abandons XQ and let’s get back to policy, rules, discipline, uniforms, cell phones out of classes, parent engagement, and learning.

Sincerely,

Someone Who Hasn’t Drank the Kool-Aid

Regarding the commentary about these individuals--in particular the one individual who uses all of those catchphrases--sounds like a classic snake oil salesman. Old as time! (Just new "potion" to sell. XQ in this case.)

“The journey begins with you!”

“Let’s take this journey together…”

Principal “Moolah” did say that we have to put the “cult” back in “culture”!
