Except that UW is basically a top 50 school whereas Nebraska is at best a top 150 school. Other than that and the research professors conduct and the quality of Madison over Lincoln, they are totally the same. (and the badgers have owned the cornhuskers since the latter joined the Big10) |
Except Nebraska State doesn’t exist |
UNC is overrated. But not sure that means WISC is underrated. Median earnings for alum per scorecard are:
WISC- 71k UNC- 68k MICH- 80k With that said, I believe each of those schools are good schools and provide students a lot of opportunities. |
How diverse is the undergraduate student body relative to other top 50 schools? |
You really want to go there? Texas is #32. Compare their oos rates and you will come to my conclusion. More importantly, the fact that Wisconsin accepts basically all of its in-state students does not speak highly of the school at the undergraduate level; it means, once again, that it is overrated. |
I could google but I would like the views of someone with inside information, assuming the pp is in the know. |
It’s a top 50 school along with 49 others. If you had your choice between university of Florida, University of Georgia, University of North Carolina, why would you ever go to Wisconsin? |
SMH. |
I don't think the differences between earnings between these schools is really significant. Engineering students make about 2X the average in the early to mid career period. Michigan has 16% graduates getting degrees in engineering vs. 10.1% at Wisconsin and 1.2% at UNC. The earnings largely tracks with % engineering graduates. Adjusting for % engineers alone, it would be expected that Wisconsin graduates would make 1.Michigan graduates to make 1.15X what UNC graduates make and Wisconsin graduates 1.09X as much as UNC graduates. Adjusting for this, there is very little difference, and that may be attributable to cost of living where graduates settle. Take for example Georgia Tech. It has average earnings per alum of $96,375. Does it just blow Michigan, Wisconsin and UNC out of the water? Or is this difference largely because of majors (51% of graduates earned their degrees in engineering)? Majors explains the difference, not the quality of the school (although Georgia Tech is obviously a fine school). |
Is UGA better than Wisconsin? My DD prefers UGA but I know lots of people love Wisconsin. |
Because it is awesome and one of the best college experiences in the country. Duh. |
Yeah, and Des Moine and NYC are just the same except for the buildings, the culture, the population, etc. Lol. |
I agree with you. DS refused to consider it though. |
They’re about equal as far as rankings and programs. Wisconsin is larger and of course Georgia is warmer. |
Clearly, you haven’t spent any time down south. |
