I didn’t say Audrey Hepburn was the universal ideal of beauty. I meant that she was universally liked. I have never met anyone who didn’t think she was charming, cute, “adorable” as you say.

But I for one think Jennifer Garner is unattractive and not remotely charming. I find her hokey, homey, masculine and annoying. I can see that my assessment is not unique.

There are stars that almost everyone likes, Jennifer Garner is not one of them.

Sweetheart, name me one actor/actress right now that is universally liked and I'll Venmo you $10,000.

I’m not the pp you asked, but:
Dolly Parton

It hurts to look at her face. Same with Jennifer Coolidge

Jennifer Anniston
Matt Leblanc
Jay Z
Lil Wayne

I can't stand Jay Z.

Her sisters - not in the biz - also have very good skin.

And she was totally an indoor cat growing up. She did ballet pretty seriously so it’s not like she was out tanning on a softball field.

She has some overzealous theater kid/Tracy Flick energy. That's what people don't like about her. It will never not feel like she's running for class president. Some people (me) find that kind of personality irritating and don't respond well.

Anna Kendrick has a similar vibe. People also find her really irritating. I also get this feeling about Josh Gad and Skylar Astin, so it's not a misogynist thing. I actually did theater in high school and college, which should make me immune to this personality type, but instead I think I just have PTSD from it.

Also, regarding her career, it's totally fine she took time off to raise her kids. Me too. But her divorce has kept her in the public eye in a more prominent way, plus those credit card commercials (which, if you find JG annoying, you definitely find annoying). And while she did work, a lot of it was low budget work -- voice over gigs, some kids and family-oriented shows and movies where she played "the mom." An ensemble role in Mother's Day. In the last decade, she is best known for (1) being Ben Affleck's ex, (2) the credit card commercial lady, and (3) her Instagram stuff which is all mom/homemaker focused. In that order. So it's reasonable that people who aren't watching lots of children's programming or low budget family films don't really see her as an actress anymore.

None of this is a crime but since people were asking why she is disliked, this is why.

Come at me.

I’m a guy, btw.

My DH agrees. He thinks Jen G is gorgeous and charming.

I think my husband likes both, but I think Jen G seems more attainable or something? We used to watch Alias together. I was jealous she could wear just about any costume and pull it off. But honestly, she just seems like a normal and fun person. Her social media videos crack me up. I get a feeling she doesn’t take herself all that seriously.

I’m going to go on a limb and guess both of your husbands are middle class, White bread types of a mix of Scottish, German, Irish, English extraction, no? That’s most American men. I had a gorgeous friend, she was a Swedish Blonde, but all of my guy friends preferred my very ordinary, but cute all American mutt friend. She made them feel better about themselves. I’m not a J-Lo fan by any means, I prefer Jennifer Garner to her, too, but I think it’s because I’m also White and Middle American.

As for Garner, I don’t get that normal, fun vibe. I see her as the sort of two faced “bless your heart” type who smiles in your face and talks about you behind your back. She’s Hollywood pretending to be just like you and me. That being said, I do respect how she handled her divorce.

People from this area who actually know her say she is genuinely nice.

If it wasn’t for her train wreck of a marriage to Ben Affleck, no one would even be talking about her. Ever.

She is the definition of Snooooozzzzeeee.

I loved her since Alias way before Ben Affleck! She comes across as normal person and has remained grounded even though she is in Hollywood.

Cool beans, but I’ve seen her in real life, too, and she gave me a bad vibe. I’m going to go with my gut instinct, which never leads me astray, as opposed to the opinion of “people from this area who actually know her.” She and her demeanor rubbed me the wrong way, even though she was polite. Something seemed very phony and I didn’t like it. That being said, I’ll probably never see her again, so it doesn’t matter.

We’re all allowed to have differing opinions about celebrities who put themselves out there in the spotlight, no?
