This week I was at the Whole Foods in Ashburn. The cashier, male, was big and sloppy, with long hair and long nails. Gross when dealing with food.

He instructed me to put my small basket on the belt so I did. He told the guy behind me, too. The guy said “Oh I don’t mind” and started loading the belt. The cashier said “Actually I prefer it. It makes my job easier.”

I look forward to the time we are no longer just hiring anyone with a pulse.

Yes.

In general I like Harris Teeter as a grocery store. But they suck when it comes to customer service. I've had security called on me over the intercom (when I was the only person in the aisle in question, so no misunderstanding on my part that security was being asked to watch me). A teenage employee had the rudeness to scold me when she felt I was not using the checkout register properly (whut). She literally got in my face to yell at me, a woman old enough to be her granny.

That was in the past. I had words with management over the above incidents. No other grocery store has ever exhibited that level of amazing rough treatment. Minor stuff - I never worry about it.

John Oliver's most recent show was about Dollar General and Dollar Tree. They are the worst to work for. I have a lot of sympathy for them but if an employee had acted that way to me I would have walked out or demanded my money back right there.

I think the Post had an article about the shoplifting problem across the country and the data didn't support what the stores are saying except in certain areas. The big stores have training about this and demand their employees be non confrontational but a lot of the employees want to play cop and cross lines. There has been more violence in stores as customers get angry about how they are treated.

What does walking out or demanding your money back accomplish? With the latter option, you’re spending more time with the cashier — and ending up without your stuff.

I agree about Harris Teeter. For me it was so bad, I try to never shop there. I actually looked up the corporate number and complained about my treatment after one visit. The district manager called me back and said he talked ot whomever the manager was in the store and I went again again and was treated just as bad. The same guy followed me so closely he nearly ran into me. I will yell and make a scene if it happens again.

The worst thing that happened at the same Harris Teeter was at their pharmacy. I had just moved to the area and was thinking about moving our prescriptions to this store. I had concerns about my kid's adhd medication as we'd had problems getting it filled at CVS. The pharmacist was very nice, encouraged me, and even showed me discounts I could get on the medication. Whenever I went in she remembered me and was nice until the first time I took in a new prescription for my kid's ADHD medication. The person who took the prescription yelled at me and accused me of writing the prescription. She loudly stated that the date on the prescription was that day's date and there was no way I was filling a prescription on the same day it was written. She created a scene and said they would refuse to fill it until they spoke to the doctor. The pharmacist came over and said they couldn't read what the doctor wrote and that it looked like I had written it. She pulled up a picture of the previous prescription and said it looked like it was written differently. It was in the exact same scrawl. I was stunned. My kid had been on these medications since they were young and I'd never encountered anything like this. They couldn't reach the doctor and I was so fed up I demanded the prescription back. The tech person refused to give it back and I was calling 911 when the pharmacist came back and decided it did look enough like the doctor's previous prescription that she filled it all the while lecturing me that there are too many children on these medications who don't need them and made another insulting remark about kids with ADHD. I was so incensed I asked for the manager and explained to him what happened. The pharmacist came over to us and starting crying, apologizing for what happened. She begged me not to call corporate which I was going to do. They were filling the prescription and when it was ready, the manager was no longer nearby the pharmacist nd another worker went back to being complete aholes. The other employee who looked like a 16 year old kid, grilled me with a bunch of questions that had nothing to do with the prescription and when I refused to answer he refused to give me the prescription. They were the worst aholes ever. I'm angry at myself today for not calling corporate and filing a lawsuit. They accused me of writing the prescription in front of a large group of customers, refused to give the prescription back when I asked for it and demanded to know a bunch of information about my family before handing me the prescription also in front of a large group of customers. These are the people who work in the stores now.
