Did you marry into a board game family?

Much prefer a board game family than one that sits around all day watching tv, usually sports, and not talking to one another. Even on a beautiful day. That’s my in-laws. Not only is it boring and lazy, but what’s the point of making a big deal of spending time with one another and not interact or have fun?

My MIL just sits glued to her iPad playing stupid 1 player games.

I wish our families played games. Instead it's either background TV blaring or else TV volume is soft so no one misses out on the rambling stories and gossip. I hate it.

Oops. Meant, yes I agree. Keep it simple. I didn’t play DND as a kid for a reason.

I'm okay watching other people play and joining in the conversation.

AMEN! I come from a board game family and I would much rather do that or play cards than to have to watch the endless stream of baseball and golf that goes on at my ILs.

Watching baseball and gold is SO boring. Who does that?!

No, and I'd put a knife through each hand if I had to play at every belonging. Absolutely no interest and a competitive boardgame group is the living worst. Lame AND dicks. Bad combo.

Omg same.

Same. Back when I was dating, a potential partner with a board game family was a giant red flag for me.

PP here. My FIL. Sometimes football and CNN are thrown into the mix. And the TV is on ALL DAY. Even when the kids were little, they would have to go in the other room to watch cartoons. Even though, as the TV is on, he's checking sports scores on the laptop.

I wish I did. It would give us something to talk about that wouldn’t end in a brawl or bar fight.

I used to enjoy playing them. But my FIL turns into the biggest jerk when he plays. Name calls, sneers at people, accuses anyone doing well of cheating. It's so childish and uncomfortable. He can't see when the fun part is over and that it's time to just wrap it up or call it. He uses it as an excuse to have everyone sit around a table and take his abuse.

So yeah, I refuse to play if he's involved. It's been 10 years since I willingly sat down to play a game with him and he's so selfish I don't even think he's noticed.

Bring some board games that are over quickly like Blockus, Qwirkle or Patchwork.

Are board game families an East Coast sort of thing? Northeast in particular?
